Rolf, do you actually allow for INs and OUTs to be imported? I’ve never done that, only brought in bulk clips as we’re normally working from another MAM or a bulk list from some other database.
Chris are these clips from an NLE? Where were they created?

I’ve seen the adesso’s used and a few others. The brand isn’t that important, as long as they have drivers for the OS you’re using.

Page 17 of the Worker Read Me covers this for Worker and page 67 of the old Qmaster3_Compressor3_Distributed Processing manual covers it for Compressor. (I’m sure it’s also in the newer v 4 manual as well.)
As a policy of my company, while we want to offer as much public info as we can, we don’t publish “tutorials” on running command line actions through the Worker. This is mainly because so many CatDV users are not familiar with the command line and that opens up so many possible huge mistakes and potential data loss. (Hey! I just overwrote all of my proxy!)
If you’re savvy, and have the time, you’ll get it rolling with those manual pages. If you don’t wanna mess with it, I’d hit your reseller up as the first point of contact or SquareBox if you’re in the UK, Kevin Duggan was the first guy to get this rolling that I saw. They should be able to get this running. Or NSA offers the Compressor setup as a service item fully documented and supported to clients through our dealers. This is usually the best way to learn about the Worker, see it done once for you in the field.
But the command, as published in Apple’s manual runs fine in Worker if you wanna try it on your own. As always, be careful out there.

i was able to peel out the first 7 into a smaller file and the import got me 2 clips.
I did notice that a lot of the clips refer to the same asset. We’ve never brought in sub-clips, only full assets on a main import.
Rolf can you check that subclips of the same clip come in via an XML batch?
We’ve always done this with full clips.

The good news is that if you’re setting up SDNA’s CatDV workflow, they will do the install for you generally. If you don’t have a reseller established they will offer professional services to help with the CatDV side if you don’t want to handle it.
It’s been pretty well debugged as far as the CatDV workflow goes so there’s not a ton to worry about there. Make sure that if your SDNA client/Archive Manager isn’t running on a machine with a Worker Node installed that you buy an additional Worker License for that machine. That’s often overlooked by resellers. Other than that it’s pretty straight forward.
As always take your time. Plan the work, work the plan.

Most USB readers will run Code 39 well. I’ve used that with Filemaker and the fonts are available for Mac which makes labels easy.
It’s generally pretty straight forward if it’s not tied to an outside system. Print labels and the Barcode reader is just a “keyboard” reading them and entering text into the field you have the cursor in.
If you are working with a larger company or network you may have to conform to their standard but if not…

Check the FAQ on the Squarebox site. It lays out how to do this import with Excel. Take your text into Excel and you should be able to get paths in that way.
We do this all the time but it sometimes takes a few tries to get the format right the first time.

I do not know what the backed is. I’m assuming custom as I’ve seen some other custom solutions they have built.
Anyone that big, with their technical resources is likely rolling their own. If it’s based on anything I’ll bet we’d have seen a huge press release touting that “Deluxe is using our…. software to…” Etc.
But if they are ingesting I’m betting that’s something pretty low tech as you still have to manually babysit ingest quite a bit, hence the pricing you see for those types of services.

Funny you should revive this thread.
We are currently doing an implementation where we are cataloging and archiving RED EPIC footage.
As of CatDV 10.0.1, you can use an .mov or .mp4 proxy of a R3D file so if you can create a proxy, you can have CatDV show the proxy and then you can manipulate the R3D’s. We are using an outside script to drive REDLINE and batch jobs to create proxy for CatDV to use
One note, you can’t use REDLINE with Worker Node on its own due to the fact that REDLINE doesn’t have job management so if you start a job from the CLI, it just keeps stacking up jobs and doesn’t queue them to keep you processor from being swamped. However, if you just want to use REDCINE X and create proxy and put them in place manually, it works fine.
So while you can’t “read” R3D’s natively in CatDV, we certainly have a solid workflow for RED files now, in my opinion.
