No worries, thanks so much for your response. Yes, I had been using a custom ProRes 422 23.98 sequence preset, you nailed that. After a couple projects, I got tired of always making a new one for my projects so I created the preset. Clearly, I somehow created mono tracks for it. Thank you very much for your time educating me with my lack of fundamental Premiere knowledge!
Best,
Bryan

March 17, 2015 at 5:57 pm in reply to: Stereo tracks not playing back in timeline as stereo? What?Hi Peter,
Could you help me on this issue? I’m really baffled and have a confused client requesting a quicktime screener with a stereo mix. I was able to do a workaround for the time being – if you go into “modify audio channels” on my stereo mix file and change the audio channels to the setting I’ve attached to this post, THEN I can have stereo playback in my timeline however, it makes me put this file on two new audio tracks below what I have currently that are specifically mapped this way. I’m unable to mix these onto other tracks. Again, if I use the normal stereo setting with any stereo audio files, it will play back stereo in my viewer window BUT once pulled into my timeline, will only play mono. I checked previous projects and they have the same issue. I’ve been sending mono quicktime files with anything I’ve cut in Premiere all this time!
Thanks.
Best,
Bryan

I’m on CC 8.1 Caravan
I’ve done a screen grab of my export settings and my audio timeline with waveforms turned on. You can see with the slight variances in the waveforms that this is indeed showing as a stereo track in my timeline however my audio meters while playing back my timeline show the exact levels on both tracks (meaning mono out) and when I match frame on the audio track and play from the viewer window, it plays correctly in stereo. It’s any playback or export from my timeline that is all mono. This isn’t just on this one timeline, it’s any timelines in this project.EDITOR

March 12, 2015 at 4:41 pm in reply to: What’s the best practice to setup Project Manager for a perfect copy of a single sequence… I’m having issues…Ouch, that bad huh. It’s unfortunate, I just had to archive some FCP projects which worked flawlessly as always and while those have the luxury of being comprised of media almost entirely in ProRes which I’m sure makes the archiving process WAY easier to get correct, I was hoping Premiere would have nailed this since they push editing with native files so hard. Bleh.

Is there nothing similar to FCP 7’s iChat Theater Preview? That worked really well for me and a few clients when we had to cut remotely. I’ve read that since Mavericks, that ability was removed by Apple. Are there no other programs that offer that similar functionality for Premiere or Avid?

February 16, 2015 at 11:48 pm in reply to: Offline editing a 4K Concert to be onlined / colored / mastered in 4k. Can someone check my workflow?Hey guys, I did some more testing and found something out that hopefully helps one of you down the line. I was starting to create dupes of my longer 1080p files in order to have multiple instances of them to match up 1:1 with my 4k master files but creating new files of these 1080p clips in my finder was taking a long time as each one is quite long. In Premiere, if you duplicate the instance of a file, even though they start off pointing to the same file, you can point each instance at different files and it’ll retain that information. IE, there’s no reason to physically create these dummy 1080p files, I can just create duplicates in Premiere instantly and point different files to each one as needed. Anyways, hope that makes sense and again, if someone sees something hugely wrong with my approach, please let me know!

February 16, 2015 at 10:41 pm in reply to: Offline editing a 4K Concert to be onlined / colored / mastered in 4k. Can someone check my workflow?Ah, sorry guys. One wrinkle I left out that’s potentially huge. There’s not always a 1:1 ratio of clips from 4k masters to 1080p files. Sometimes the Ki Pro files run for 2 of the 4k files. On average, there’ll be 4 1080p Ki Pro files for an entire show from one angle to cut with which are matched by 5 or 6 4K master files. Thankfully, they never cut roll on the 4k files in the middle of a song but there isn’t a one to one ratio which means inevitably, I’ll be trying to relink a file to it’s 4k master and on one song might need one 4k master file but for the next song with the same 1080p file, will need the next 4k master. The issue becomes that when I relink on one song, it’ll be correct for that track but could be incorrect for the next track. In this case, should I be making duplicate 1080p files in my finder before I start to correspond with the 4k masters so that I can have this 1:1 ratio or is there some other way that would be better?

February 16, 2015 at 10:12 pm in reply to: Offline editing a 4K Concert to be onlined / colored / mastered in 4k. Can someone check my workflow?Hi Walter. I thought about doing this but the issue is there’s a backup of all my raw media in another state in a secure location and I worried that if something catastrophic happened, this media wouldn’t immediately match up in my project. Perhaps it’s still worth doing though, hmmm…

February 13, 2015 at 5:10 pm in reply to: PP 2014.2 cutting a series for Fox. Update has hit real time performance hard. Anyone else with these issues? Thanks all for your wonderful replies.
I tried everything and I think it was too much RAM and I was suffocating my OS. When I lowered it to 20GB for Premiere, it seems to be happier, most of the issues go away. I’m starting to feel like my 2009 Mac Pro is starting to get long in the tooth anyways. The GTX780 + Premiere really breathed new life into the thing but I mean it IS a 6 year old machine which is laughable to say out loud. Whenever they release the next Mac Pro update, it looks like I’ll be jumping.
Thanks again everyone for your suggestions!
