June 15, 2019 at 6:06 pm in reply to: Have I hit the limit of what Premiere can handle? Cutting a 4k doc, I don’t think a new $40k 2019 Mac Pro would even improve things…Hi Oliver,
Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, I’m very well versed in the Proxy workflow and my proxies are turned on – however it doesn’t really matter as my entire timeline has been rendered to ProRes 422 4k and all the bars are green so Premiere should be pointing to those render files. I also tried creating a new blank project and dragging and dropping my sequence into it to pare down the project as much as possible but it didn’t help either (I actually already did this once when we finished the first cut and I had lots of footage in the project in bins that weren’t going to be used).
I have 14.85TB free so I don’t think drive performance will be an issue…

Cutting a 4k doc, I don’t think a new $40k 2019 Mac Pro would even improve things…Except… that with the upgrade to 3.46ghz 12 core chips, I have a machine that is the 3rd fastest Mac Pro configuration ever (compared to all other stock options apple has sold). The only thing the 2009/2010/2012 Mac Pros don’t have is Thunderbolt and it seems drive speed is not my issue. When I was cutting on location for a few weeks, they had 2013 mac pros, middle of the road configurations. Those were really chugging. When I got home to my 3.46 with 1080ti, it was night and day faster.

If you’re on any of the V12 releases – I’d strongly suggest trying to duplicate your sequence and see if your duplicated sequence has correct audio. My sequences have audio issues almost every time I restart my project and I start my morning by duplicating my sequence just to get sound rolling on an almost daily basis.

May 18, 2018 at 6:13 pm in reply to: Is Premiere 12 the most buggy release of Premiere Ever? WTF.Ah, well great to hear it’s most people having issues.
I agree, I should have stayed on old versions. That one little bug was really pissing me off on V11 with the bin windows popping up off screen. So I dipped my toe – the first couple weeks, nothing too bad and then it all went to hell. I didn’t downgrade because I had then made changes to several projects (I’m usually juggling a few) and couldn’t keep the work I had done since the upgrade so was too far in to turn back. It’s been abysmal.
And yes, 2015 Premiere release was VERY stable (not sure which version numbers we were on then). Even the releases last year were relatively solid. Everything I’ve gotten late last year and this year (which I believe has started with the V12 releases) has been absolute unconscionable garbage. It truly feels like Avid lately where they’d have one solid release that everyone stayed on for like 3-4+ years after it’s release because no one dared deal with the buggy crap they’d put out for the public to use for several years after. Clearly, I need to start treating Premiere that way (I was flying to close to the sun I guess or treating it more like FCP 7 releases which were shockingly stable and usable every time, ah the good old days).

March 28, 2018 at 5:58 pm in reply to: Premiere Pro 101 question – how to get out of the editing mode where clicking on the top of my timeline highlights a clip –Perfect. I’ll just add the keyboard shortcut along with my other keyboard short cut for resetting a current workspace layout because all my bins now open half off screen where I can’t access them or close them. God I hope Adobe has a patch that fixes that soon.

February 27, 2018 at 4:02 pm in reply to: Best way to convert 25fps drone footage for 23.98 project? Thanks everyone. So I was entering 23.98 vs 23.976 and because the media was heavily compressed 4k drone footage with a 2.35 matte on top as well as trying to handle the frame rate conversion on the fly, Premiere was stuttering during playback when I first made the change. Now that I re-open the project though, it plays back fine in my timeline (I’m running a 1080ti with 3.46 ghz octo so it should be able to play back ok). When I did a test export, it confirms the smoothness! Thanks again all. Wonderfully simple fix.

I upgraded my cpu tray to a 3.46ghz 12 core for $400 and got a gtx 1080 ti – it screams and can get me by until the new new Mac Pro. Glad I waited.
