GenArts should release this program for open source so that we can improve and update it. I am so tired of companies puchasing great software and then neglecting it so it becomes deadware. Examples would be most of the Metacreations stuff like KPT Bryce, Carrara, Canoma, 3D Painter, KPT Power Tools, and now Particle Illusion. Please consider releasing it to open source.

BTW: There is another developer that is developing an alternative to PI. It is called TimelineFX

I have read through the posts and I have a suggestion…

Make the emitters into a contest/challenge for the users to submit to. Have a different theme each month or two and then take the best submissions and release them as a pack. Tie this into a really good tutorial for creating emitters from scratch.

I would like to see depth charges/underwater explosions as one of the challenges.

February 17, 2006 at 8:04 am in reply to: PI 4 Suggestion – Flash Export

The same argument could be applied to the persistent problem of pirated software, music and movies. Should we stop making these things, or hold back on development, because a handful of dishonest people steal things?

I have been designing websites for 10 years and I have yet to reverse engineer a flash file. Most design firms would fire an employee for doing this. The possible legal problems created by ripping off things from another website are too great. Even if some hacker-type decompiled the flash file, the task of customizing the animation and changing all the tweening would make it a daunting task at best. No legitimate designer/firm would bother doing this.

If there was a virtually invisible watermarking feature built into the export it would help with intellectual property rights.
