    Hi All,
so I’ve been rendering some DNxHD movies (at the request of an editor) and, for the most part, had no problems.
It’s only with very complicated animations that this codec seems to break down. (see attached picture)
It happens upon repeated efforts to rerender.
As far as I can tell, this is not a Quicktime preview problem, nor is it a RAM buffer problem.
I am using the latest codecs from Avid on an Intel/MacPro machine running Leopard/AE CS4, but I have also had this problem using a powerPC mac too.
Any Windows users ever see this before?
My advice is to NOT use this codec when trying to render lengthy, complicated HD animations. Maybe the good folks at Avid will fix this someday, but for now I have to resort to the good ‘ol animation codec for import into an AVID DS. (otherwise I might use the Apple ProRes codec)

thanks for all your help, CowGurus!

Thanks so much for the suggestions!
At the moment I’m forging ahead with using many off-set pre-comps to recreate the compression waves.
But I’ll try and play in particle playground as well.
    thanks again.
    cheers,

December 17, 2007 at 2:44 pm in reply to: fade in and out without keyframe

    Hi All,
long time reader, first time poster.
First of all, thanks so much for all of your helpful thoughts, podcasts and postings. The Cowmmunity has saved my time-strapped rear-end on many occasions.
So, here’s my question regarding sliders, expressions and opacity.
I’m trying to do basically the same thing described in this thread, (control many layers’ opacity with one layer to avoid many keyframes, etc.)
The only twist being I would like to stagger the fade up of my stack of lights and be able to control and adjust the timing to my whim, (using that all mighty control Null layer hopefully)
I imagine that I just need to incorporate the expression “valueAtTime(time-X)” in there somehow.
My expression chops aren’t very developed, but I’m trying.
Thanks again for all your help,
    bruce
