[rick.pearl] “What if I am somehow able to shoot video in some establishment, though I do not get permission to do so.”

Plain and simple. If you do so, you have exposed yourself to future legal problems.

We had a copyright attorney present at our local MCA-I chapter meeting this year. She indicated that you cannot have copyrighted material in the shots (subject matter and/or background). Things like paintings, movie posters, band posters, t-shirts with copyrighted designs, etc. And, believe it or not, tattoo artists hold the copyright on everything they do if they haven

    Tim,

One thing I tell kids is that corporate video is about story telling. Take 100 photos from your family’s history/archives and show me what you can do with them.

I agree with Mark. Those are the exact 2 applications I work with for such projects that you’re talking about. Flash seems to be in the forefront mainly because it seems like every corporation and their brothers “want it on the Web.”

    Eg,

Do you want to get into corporate, broadcast or cinema?
If you want to get into corporate or broadcast, my answer it doesn’t really matter how you include it in your resume.
I’ve been in the broadcast and corporate industry for 15 years. For 8 years worked at a post house and interviewed/screened applicants before turning them over to the owner. Every time I interviewed people, my mission was to find the one person that could produce the best possible product and who would make the company the most money.
I was amazed at all the self-centered weird demos that kids brought in. Most had nothing to do with real world production. Do a TV spot or video for a non-profit if you need to, but get a reel.
We all is educated:) Show me hands-on, concrete examples of your craft. Show me the money.

    Good luck,
    Bruce

    Bob,

I use Great Lakes Media Technology in Mequon, WI (just north of Milwaukee). They deliver high quality results over and over.
You may want to inquire about offset disc printing (versus screen printing) for better image quality on the disc.

I don’t like Discmakers. I’ve had colors that look way off base a couple of times. I think they go directly from the electronic artwork file to printing directly on the discs (no films).

May 31, 2007 at 6:40 pm in reply to: DVD copy protection program

    Luke,

I went to their Website. Sounds like the DVD-Video protection is for replication/stamping and DVD-ROM for burning.
You motioned that you are using the software for DVD-ROM/burning. Does this program run in the background/in conjunction with your burning software (i.e., Toast, Roxio, Nero)? If not, how does it work/operate?

This would be for a project that I’m going to sell to small businesses, so they probably would fail to copy it on their PCs and then would decide to buy another copy vs. risking copyright violation. At least that’s what I’d hope would happen.

    Thanks,
    Bruce

My company is an LLC filed as an S-Corp. and has an EIN/Tax ID. Because of these “components” I don’t need 1099s from my clients. But…last year I hired a subcontractor who was a LLC but did not have an EIN/Tax ID. My accountant said I needed to send her a 1099 because of that combo.
