Thanks Michael, your answer let me to the solution. I did change the folder name. But I did it before importing into FCP thinking that would be okay. Now I changed the folder name back to the original name, and it works 🙂
It seems the folder name and the XML file name must be identical except for the file extension in order to work (file extension is “.pac titles.xml”).
Thanks for your help.

BTW, did do a clean OS install – of course.

What do the places have that you Freelance at?
In Denmark everything is Avid or FCP7.
Isn’t that what people are saying about FCP X?
Yes, that is what I hear people say. But that is also how I have heard Premiere described up until now (except for graphic designers who use Premiere together with AE).
But things are changing, I believe. Is Adobe taking over Apple’s position as a professionel editing software? I would like to see that happen, since their Premium package semms so simular to FCS3. Or can Avid replace FCS3. If so, what software can be used together with Avid. And how about integration both ways. The way I know Avid, it is more of a stand alone system with a few plug-ins and more important for larger production houses – a server solution for multiple users.
I was hoping to hear your thoughts on a future workflow. Just trying to figure out the best replacement for FCS3 when being involved in the entire workflow yourself…

Mayby you could find some production music that resemble the song you are looking for. Prices are certainly more reasonable that way. E.g. Universal:

Hi MB,
Tried refresh/load…, didn’t make any difference as to import of footage. Suddenly, however, I was able to link to a few of the MXF clips in the Avid MediaFiles folder on my external drive using “Link to AMA files”. Looks fine on the video, but no audio. Tried to import more clips from the same folder, but most of the time I get an error message “Floating point exception in thread “MainThread”, at adress 0x0″ and the software crashes. Managed to link to 3 clips, video only. Doesn’t make much sence to me…
Thanks for info about fieldpacks. Mine are working fine so far. But nice to know.

Think you’re right. That must be the way to do it. Going to try that. Thanks.

Audio dissolves should be just as easy to do in Avid or even easier compared to Fcp7. In general however I think Avid is not at all as intuitive as FCP7. So for FCP editors who never tried Avid it can be frustrating. But hang in, don’t throw it out the window :-). It can be learned. Everything is just a little more complicated. I myself am struggling with Avid MediaFiles linked with my FCP7. Avid can’t read them because they were copied from the originally drive, instead they should have been consolidated. But there were never any problems in FCP7.
I believe Avid is so popular first and foremost because of its network/server solutions. Not because of the interface. In all circumstances it’s hard to be an editor and not know
Avid, at least in my part of the world. And with the end of FCP as we know it Avid will be even bigger.Brian

Thanks for your help trying to solve this problem.
The files are no longer on fieldpacks. They’ve been copied to an external harddrive and used in FinalCutPro7, linked with third party software. However, the uncertain future of FCP made me want to switch to AVID assuming the footage is readable in AVID. I don’t think the clips.bin file is corrupt apart from having been copied from the originally fieldpack to another drive, since I get the same error message with all my material copied from fieldpacks.
Btw, I’m not on a network share. It’s a local machine with an external drive attached.

Didn’t work, unfortunately. Thanks anyhow.
