Thanks for the reply Jeremy. Actually I do know it’s pretty easy to add keyframes and in fact I do it all the time. I video a lot of amateur shows etc and apart from my manned camcorders(s) I typically have five or more static, unattended camcorders in different places in the hall/theatre. In post I make lots of subtle changes to the scale and position parameters for these static camcorders to give the impression that they are not actually unattended.

I appreciate your suggestion of:

– click on clip followed by
– ctrl-v and then
– click on Transform and finally
– Option-k

As you point out, this will certainly set the first keyframe however, with my situation in mind what I was hoping to discover was something like:

– click on clip followed by
– a keyboard shortcut to set a keyframe at the current position for all the “Transform” parameters in the same way as Option-k (at this point) sets a keyframe for the audio without any further keystrokes or mouse movement required.

This would save me lots of effort for the many manipulations I am currently making to achieve my objective.

But it looks like I’m out of luck for the time being. Oh well, I can always make a feature request…

That’s strange – that doesn’t work for me with my 16 GB, Mid 2015 Macbook Pro running macOS High Sierra 10.13.3 and FCPX 10.4.

I’d really appreciate it if you could please confirm that you have actually achieved this* on your machine(s).

For me Option-K only inserts a keyframe in the audio, something I’ve been doing for years.

The thought occurred to me that if I detached the audio from a particular clip then FCPX would be forced to do what I have in mind and show up in “Show Video Animation” but no sign of anything. Anybody any idea what I am doing wrong?

*a keyboard shortcut which will insert keyframes at the current position in a selected clip for the “Transform” elements. If it helps I’m usually only interested in the Position and Scale (All) parts of “Transform”

I’ve been lucky so far in that all my customers (schools, amateur groups etc) are happy with DVDs which I produce using Encore running under Win 7 (using Parallels on a MacBook Pro).

One day something will break and I’ll be forced to change my workflow so I’d be VERY interested to hear what you choose. Thanks!

When all the Share options were not available for me (it’s happened a couple of times over the last few years) it was because something I’d used had gone missing in the meantime, like some special transition I’d forgotten I’d used.

To find it I ended up by making a temporary project with all the contents of the troublesome project in there, deleting (say) the second half and seeing if I got the Share options back. If yes then the problem was somewhere in the half I’d deleted. You get the picture? I then kept on narrowing things down until I could slap my forehead and get back to being productive.

Many thanks again for the idea Jeremy. Unfortunately the “jump cut at markers” gives a strange effect in these circumstances as it doesn’t leave physical cuts where I can insert Cross Dissolves. Those are vital for me.

In the end I did the following which I’m writing out in detail in case it could help some other relatively inexperienced user:

1) Select the clip and position the CTI at the END of the clip

2) Press J (maybe twice to speed things up) for a ‘longish’ clip of say 15 or more seconds. (‘Longish’ clips are those that will be deleted at the end of the process). Press the spacebar to stop the CTI and then press Cmd-B

3) Press J and leave for about three seconds, press the spacebar and then press Cmd-B. This gives a ‘shortish’ clip. All the ‘shortish’ clips will be kept and cut to the same duration in 6)

Repeat 2) and 3) until the beginning of the original clip is reached.

4) Using the Cmd key, select all ‘longish’ clips one by one and delete them

5) Select all remaining clips, ie. the ‘shortish’ clips

6) Ctrl-D and enter, say, 200 to make all remaining clips 2 seconds long

7) Leaving all the clips selected, double click on Cross Dissolve.

I was really lucky and the resulting length gave me just about what I had in mind. I made a minor adjustment to the music length. overlaid my scrolling ’Credits’ title and at least my wife is really impressed!
