    Hi Don,
Thanks for the advice. I don’t use clip browser and have just opened it for the first time. It is V 2.6. I have tried for two hours to find a way to import a clip from my files into clip browser but with no success. I can get to the captured and rendered files etc. from within clip browser but they are all greyed out and I have even tried exporting from FCP to sony clip browser but nothing happens.
You say activate the aquisition tab. I cannot find anything which says aquisition.
Is this only possible if I am importing files by using the Sony software.?? Usually I just import straight from the EX1 directly into FCP
The clips I need to examine have all been wiped from the card and only exist in my capture scratch folder.
I have tried everyhing I can think of but with no luck.
    Can you explain further

    With Thanks
    BRIAN.

Hi and Thanks for the replies
I remember setting the camera up with two white balances for the days event. One was cinegamma 1 and the other was cinegamma 3 – One for outdoors and one for indoors. As far as I know I did not use automatic white balance – ( unless by accident it got switched over.)
I guess from the two replies so far it seems logical that this may have been the case. Presumeably there is no other explanation. Is this correct. ? ? ?
Is there any way to check this in the original footage as there is with metadata in stills photography ?

    Thanks

    BRIAN.

August 16, 2010 at 9:10 am in reply to: Problem Keyframing colour corrections

    Thanks NIck,
I had already tried cutting the frame up into sections. That wasn’t too successful. The problem is the change in colour is too gradual
for this to work. The only other way around it I have found is to copy the clip ( or a section of it ) paste it above then recolour the worst part of it to the colour temperature it should be, then do a long ramp of the in and out points so the “change in” and the “change out” blends together with the underlying footage over time. It is long winded of course and is a pain and dosen’t work too well if I come across several quicker change in colour in succesion.
So back to my original question – can you explain why, if I make two Key points in the clip and make subtle changes to the colour, why the dot in the colour wheels go all the way around in a circle just to get back to where they almost started thereby making the colour between the two keyed points in the timeline go through every change in the rainbow before getting to the colour I selected. Is this right! (I would be surprised if it was) or is there somthing I misssed here.

Lastly can anyone tell me why my camera ( EX1r) would have had this desire to randomly change the colour temperatures in the first place when it was locked off in a static lighting environment.

    Many Thanks
    BRIAN.

    Thanks Jeremy,
    I was already working in 1920 X 1080 so that’s O.K.
Regarding the exporting, because I changed the sequence settings last night I thought it would have retained the change but thinking about it now, when quitting FCP it says that modifications have been made and asks if you want to save them. I was of course thinking about the time line and not the sequence settings and so I clicked don’t save – obviously then it resorted to the original settings which is what caused the problem in the first place.
Going back and checking it now brought up a question in my mind. In the sequence settings panel the compressor is set to 1080XDCAM EXi50 and under the render control tab it is set to apple pro res 422 (hence the problem) If I change the pro res setting to “same as sequence codec” then that in theory will sort my problem.
If however instead, I change the compressor to apple pro res 422 ( which matches the codec setting ) then do I still have to change the codec to “same as sequence codec” setting or do I just leave it as pro res 422 ( which matches the compressor setting ) – or does it not matter.
Finally if I am intending to make a DVD using DVD studio pro is it best to export from an XDCAM timeline or a pro res timeline. Either way it looks like I will have to render the whole job again as any of these changes turns the render bar RED so might as well set it up to it’s best advantage at this point.

Many Thanks again for your help.
    Regards
    BRIAN

July 18, 2010 at 1:01 pm in reply to: Can’t Make reference movie

    Hi Jeremy,
After last evening’s test re- making a reference file I thought I would take some time off (being a Sunday) and let the whole 1 hr 40 minute video export itself out to a quicktime reference file then I could burn the DVD this evening and get it to the client tomorrow. So I have just set everything up thinking it might take a couple of hours but and it says the estimated time will be 15 hrs. Also, the render line above the timeline has completely turned red – I can’t remember that happening before.
Does this sound correct to you? or have I still got a problem.

    Many Thanks
    BRIAN

    HI Jeremy,

I’m back again. Sorry I had to rush off yesterday, I don’t think I thanked you enough and just wanted to say what a great job you all do at creative cow. It’s really great to have a place
to go to for good advice when things get tough and there is no-one near at hand to turn to.
Just one final question regarding your last reply. What do you mean by “Full Raster”

    With Best wishes

    Hi Jeremy,
I’m a bit late now and my wife is getting grumpy but just had to see if this worked and it looks like it has.
I made a two minute section of timeline copied from the original rendered it and then went into sequence settings and and set the render tab to same as sequence codec.
I then exported two files, one as a self contained file and one with self contained unchecked.
The Self contained one was 394 MB and the other was 25 MB so it appears the problem was as you described. Just one thing though. In my rush to do this ( due to time ) I forgot to render the test footage as a pro res timeline instead it was still XDCAM so the trick was obviously in the same as sequence codec setting.
Finally would it be better for future projects if I used the pro res codec from the start or does that not really matter. – I will be taking the final file into DVD studio pro which I have never used before.

Thank you so much for your help and quick responses

Must Dash now my wife is screaming

I might get back to you regarding the other half of my original question

    Regards and Best wishes

    O.K. will do.
I shall just dupe a few minutes at the beginning and get back to you. I have to go out for the evening in fifteen minutes so it might have to be tomorrow, depends on the rendering time.

    With regards

    Hi Jeremy,
Under the Render Control Tab it says: Codec – Apple Pro Res 422 ( HDV, XDCAM HD, EX HD4 ……
