When using AE you should always export it in a lossless format *.avi This is done by rendering. If you are going to export stuff it is my experience to better use Premiere to do this. AE is bad at this. So you got to keep rendering at high quality untill you reach your last post processing batch (in your case AVID) and then export to other formats. Also suggest checking all export options for streaming etc.
