Same here – haven’t had a new project that I’ve had the opportunity to try it on. Currently working on a lot of projects that I’ve already converted to Apple Animation video, so I’m not sure if the Multiprocessing fix is working or not – I’ve never had a problem with Apple Animation.
Has anyone had these problems with other video codecs as well?

I’ve had this problem as well with DVCPRO HD footage. My footage originates from DVCPRO HD tape. Generally shot with HDX900 and captured using an AJ-HD1400.
Generally speaking the footage was shot 720p and captured into FCP 6.0.3 with an AJA Kona 3 over HD-SDI using the “AJA KONA 3 – 720p 59.94 DVCPro HD” setup. Mac (obviously) running OSX 10.5.2 and it’s a 2 x 3GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon with 4GB of 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM RAM. AE is CS3 8.0.2.27 (dva: 2.0.0.127845) with QuickTime 7.4.5.
This same white/brighter flash blinking gamma rendering problem does not happen on every DVCPRO HD shot (clip/file), just some of them. About 50-60% of the time if I made each clip into it’s own comp and then used that comp in my timeline instead of the original clip that solved the problem. That did not work for all of them however and then I would end up getting weird blinks/flashes at other points later on.
At one point (during a time pinch) I just rendered out a few different instances of my timeline, and got blinks/flashes at different points – then I took the “best” parts of each render and re-assembled them into an FCP timeline for my final.
The problem got so annoying and frustrating that my new workaround was to convert all the shots from DVCPRO HD to Apple Animation codec. This file conversion doesn’t help condense the project file size during archiving, but it did solve all these blinking/flashing issues. This process adds a few minutes to the start of a new AE project, but in the long run saves a ton of time.
Worth noting – I tried going to a few other formats and I had the same blinking/flashing problem with other codecs as well. I don’t have a list of the ones I tried, wish I did.
Also worth noting, we have another AE machine in the office that was experiencing the same issues, however I do not work on that machine daily.

Again, I’m well aware that DVCPRO HD will work on many (if not all) of the solutions mentioned. Heck, you could probably edit DVCPRO HD off of an expensive Compact Flash card, some of those rates are 20MB/s and higher.
I’m more concerned with a solution that will allow for uncompressed to work flawlessly with the RAID-5 capabilities.
And, as I mentioned in a previous post, the S2VR-HD is 230 MB/s and the S2VR-Duo is 150 MB/s. The HD444 is 450 MB/s, but still unable to do RAID-5.

I appreciate the suggestion, but how does this SATA RAID really differ from the SATA RAIDs that were mentioned before from CalDigit? Performance wise, the HD444 is still looking like the “BEST” SATA solution (https://www.caldigit.com/HD444.asp). If I were to stick with a SATA solution, this would probably be it.
The website really does not provide any technical information about the product you are describing.

Very true, I totally agree. I just thought we were referencing the S2VR, which cannot do 4:4:4. The S2VR-HD is 230 MB/s and the S2VR-Duo is 150 MB/s. The HD444 is 450 MB/s, but still unable to do RAID-5.

Originally I was hoping that I could get away with a SATA solution, but so far the only thing that comes close in terms of performance is the CalDigit HD444 which does not support RAID-5. I’m definitely going to be looking into Fibre Channel solutions a bit more.

Yeah, the CalDigit solution is not going to cut it for my needs – RAID-5 (unsupported) and the demands for uncompressed just far exceed the bandwidth capacity of the equipment.
DVCPRO HD (4:2:2) at 1080/60i (1280×1080) and 720/60p (960×720) is 12.50MB/s (100Mb/s)
Uncompressed HD-SDI 10bit RGB 4:4:4 (1920×1080) is 237.50MB/s (1900Mb/s)

Thank you for your suggestions. I’ll take it all into consideration when deciding which route to move in.
Just for the record, for use with the Kona 3, AJA’s support recommends the G-Tech G-RAID for DVCPRO-HD and the Apple X-SERVE in RAID-5 for uncompressed.

How many real-time layers in DVCPRO HD do you get on your CalDigit S2VR Duo? Is it RAIDed in any form?
I really am looking for something that can give me RAID-5 and performance to use the AJA Kona 3 to it’s best ability, not just DVCPRO HD codecs.
Suggestions?
