Cmd opt click where you want the connection to be. Then delete the gap. Or hold the tilde key when you delete the gap. If I remember right it’ll still ripple it all down, but won’t delete the audio. I think it’ll move down and reconnect to the clip before the gap. Might be exactly what you want in this case.

September 13, 2015 at 5:40 pm in reply to: Replacing an audio clip deleted from timeline, with an audio only clip from browserNo. There aren’t any tracks. All you can do is put it on the storyline, put it at the end, or connect it above. You can put audio anywhere. No longer are there the limitations of audio on the bottom and video above. Quite liberating once you get over your old hang ups. You can have a graphic on layer 21 and place the accompanying audio sfx right above or below it. Or place video below the primary storyline so you can move the background video out of the way to reveal the clip below the primary.
If you wanted to replace a clip instead of deleting it and then putting a new clip in its place you can use replace. Highlight and mark the clip in browser. Highlight clip in timeline. Press option R.
If you’re a die hard keyboard only mark 3 pts, set patches, choose overwrite/insert then this isn’t that app. But even in 7 I never touched patching. Mark, Mark drag always seemed like less steps to me.

September 13, 2015 at 5:05 pm in reply to: Replacing an audio clip deleted from timeline, with an audio only clip from browserDo you mean it’s putting it on the primary storyline? That’s the only “track” per se and it’s neither a video nor audio track. It’s anything. But if you just mean it’s connecting the audio clip above where you wanted it, then simply drag it down into the position you’d like. Holding shift will keep it from moving horizontally. You could also just drag it from the browser directly to the position you want which is one less step.

I’m sure it’s great, but the article makes the same point you did- that most of the people in need of this do all their heavy lifting in AE and only do shot selection in X. So for that, there’s already a $50 solution that is a very mature, well supported and often updated- XtoCC. Which is ironically made possible by Automatic Duck itself built into AE as Pro Import.
Hopefully they’ll work on a Motion solution. But I assume it’s impossible since nobody has done it yet.

It’s called ganging and a professional NLE should have it.
EDIT: wait, every NLE should have ganging but that wouldn’t help here except comparing to the original. I need a nap. Never mind. Carry on.

Well, since they’re doing little more than cutting clips together, XtoCC would be the better choice by $150. Unless you’re into throwing money away. 1 extra step. Have you tried to XtoCC?
Too bad they don’t know motion. You can actually edit video in motion in RT just like an nle.

It’s really the roundtripping I’m missing. Rarely need to send anything but a clip over to Motion. But once I create a project, I want to put it right in the timeline and then reopen it in motion without publishing generators (which aren’t editable in Motion from the timeline either.)
Don’t we already have FCP X to AE directly from XtoCC? This looks better of course. Can’t they at least have XML import in Motion?
But don’t forget the easy process to get FCP X into Motion 5. Use XtoCC to export FCP 7 XML. Open in FCP 7. Send to Motion 4, which saves a Motion 4 project. Open the Motion 4 project in Motion 5. Simple! (note: depending on your setup, may require 2nd machine running Motion 4 and FCP 7).

If I highlight a favorite in list view I can press spacebar to play it. If I highlight the full clip itself, I have to either use JKL or click in the filmstrip then press spacebar.

I noticed that the instant I scrolled the first time. Still bugs me at times as I equate the left edge of a clip with it’s text. I guess it’s an improvement overall, especially if you do t have 20 years experience of it performing in a particular way.

One method is to compound the first clip and load it into the event viewer for comparison.
