I don’t understand how the Kodak one will be $500. At that price if it were any good just buy it for the digital side and never worry about the film.

The h264 from X is whatever compressor setting you’re using. You’re really adding a step (and a teeny weeny extra generation) by going to 4444 from X, then into compressor when you can output the exact same thing via a compressor preset from within X.
But as we cleared up in a later post, this has nothing to do with the issue he’s having. Quite the reverse.He’s having a prores output (like your 4444) actually look worse than the original h264 files. But only in QT player. You can reimport the prores back into X and it magically loses the banding it displayed in QT player, so obviously QT player is degrading the quality to 8 bit or something in favor of performance. Seems logical to me as the job of QT player is to play back and arguably not be a judge of quality.
Used to be people complained all the time DV footage looked bad in QT player. There was a setting to play DV footage at full quality that wasn’t set on by default.

Perhaps the old show “Name that tune” was just a front to recruit shazam employees that actually listen to a small recording! Must be it.

So much fun stuff I’d love to post, but most everything fun I do is always internal corporate stuff.

What’s mind blowing is the Shazam app. It takes a waveform recorded from a mobile phone mic in a loud noisy restaurant, car, wherever, uploads a sample to the net, compares it to… what, EVERY song ever? Then nearly instantly tells you what song is playing. And it was doing this in 2008 on the original iPhone over 2G! Sometimes X has trouble matching a clip to a clip you tell it to match to.

If you’re trying to sync new recorded vocals with previous recorded vocals I don’t think that’s gonna happen. Even if it’s the same person there’s just not much chance of the waveform matching specific peaks and valleys.
