You seem to be quite aware of the amount of time. You’re not sitting in front of the computer working in X while its exporting in the background are you? Because while it is a background task, it completely pauses whenever you’re doing anything in X.
If you truly want to do it in the background you’ll need to export your final master to ProRes, then drop that file into compressor and do the same process there.

Just choose automatic speed and it’ll conform to 24p and play back just a hair slower.

Are you not utilizing “show audio components” ? That’s how I’d be going about it.

I’ve done that and was quite amazed at the performance of the little machines. If it’s your main machine, I’d max it out. But if you’re just looking for a field computer, then pick what suits your style. I do know that you get more spec for the same price for a bottom barrel MacBookPro vs a MacBook. It even has a bigger screen, better processor, and better and better ports. It’s just not as thin and pretty. I had to help a family member get one for Xmas and as sexy as the MacBook was, I just couldn’t find any advantage over the MacBook Pro at same price.

I assume everyone is talking about a fully rendered timeline? There are just too many factors to contemplate if it’s un rendered. Keeping things in better performance mode and not wearing your glasses also tends to smooth things out a bit.

Sometimes, even if it’s the same file! Today I opened an old FCP 7 project. It opened fine. So I exported xml, used 7toX to make it FCPXML and everything relinked except one AIFF music file. Same media that was in the legacy timeline. So I had to bring it in and redo all the cuts and audio keyframes. The clip I brought in that wouldn’t relink matched the other clips specs exactly. As it should as it’s the same file! Same kHz, same name, same length, same file. But NO, X says it’s a different length.

Might be somewhat new. It seems to have happened to me a bit in the last few months, but I don’t remember it being an issue the first few years.

The bigger problem is when o leave it on 24p and then I work on a 30p project. Stuff gets stuttery since there’s really no good way to get there from here.
If I’m jumping around between 24, 60 and 30 then I leave it at 1080i which accommodates all 3.

If you have caps lock on it won’t work. That gets me every so often.
