I’m working on client’s project and they are sourcing some stock footage for me to use. I just noticed that one of the stock California beach scenes is 25p. [Why is someone shooting California stock footage in 25p?] All the footage that I’ve shot is 23.98. That’s what the project will be set to as well. What’s it going to look like plopping this 25p down in a 23.98 timeline?

Stock footage at 25fps is quite common, because it easily matches both PAL and NTSC countries. It will run slightly slower in a 24p timeline, but usually not enough to be an issue. Here’s a good reference for how FCPX treats speeds.

Just choose automatic speed and it’ll conform to 24p and play back just a hair slower.

Thanks, Oliver and Brett! Most often I shoot my own stuff, so I don’t deal with other framerates!
