[Jeremy Garchow] “Shift-f is reveal in Browser, which will mark the clip in and out from the timeline.”
Does anyone else find this Reveal in Browser doesn’t work well. For me the first time I select Reveal in Browser it doesn’t actually show me the clip I’m looking for. It will open the correct event, but not the actual clip. It takes two times for it to work. Then it’s not exactly easy to find. Sometimes it’s at the top, sometimes it’s at the bottom. It’s not in a consistent position in the browser. For these reasons I switch to list view when doing “Reveal in Browser” which always works perfectly.

I always recommend storing footage and cache outside the library file. There are many advantages to this method. Easier transportability of library files since they are very small, versioning library files with Time Machine backups. Ability to use the same media across different libraries without duplicating. More reliable backups of media. Ability for media to span multiple volumes. And it would solve many of the problems you are experiencing.
I think Apple largely regards the original “storing media inside the library” as a mistake. But it’s a mistake that lives on. I think they think it’s maybe slightly easier for non-pros to deal with. But it has so many downsides, like the issues you mentioned that any slight simplicity it offers, is not worth the problems it creates.
So I would start with that. Then if you do that you have multiple options. You can create a new library with “best of” if you want. A lot depends on how much media you have. I find really large libraries can make FCP X sluggish. So pulling clips into a new library may keep it from getting sluggish.
However, if that is not an issue. The easiest way would probably be to create a new “Best Of” event in the library containing all of your Vlogs. You would then place the Project within that event.
The other thing you might think about is rather than having a separate event for each day. Have an event for a week. Or if it’s really a lot of footage. I would probably have a different library for each month rather than attempting to put it all in one library. And once you move the media outside the library it is real easy and fast to edit from library to library.

You can also add a solid black fill under the photos, but on top of the multicam clip. Go to Generators, select Custom Color. Drop into timeline.

You could use multicam instead of synchronize clips.

Turbo.264 Software Edition does a good job of retaining quality at lower bit rates. It’s also fast.

July 20, 2016 at 10:03 am in reply to: Can’t convert MPEG video to Apple Prores 422 for use in FCPX with MPEG Streamclip – getting black screen with soundI use “Handbrake” as a converter of last resort. It can play just about everything. The only issue is that it only converts to H.264. I just set a really high bitrate and then convert again to ProRes if needed.

[juergen steinbrecher] “-the size does not fit (63 in FCP must be around 43 in motion) which is strange
-I could not do it for all subs. I marked all of them – but i could only apply it to one of them at a time, with the just mentioned results.”For the first point, if sizing is not right just right-click the title effect in the browser and select “Open in Motion”. Tweak the text size in Motion. Then “publish” again. Then test it on a clip. Go back and forth until you get the sizing right.
You’re right you can’t batch “Replace”. It has to be done clip by clip. But still likely better than rekeying text in. Once you get the settings right I think you’ll be surprised how efficiently it will go.

I’m assuming these were made with a Title effect in FCP X. You can try making a title template in Motion with the position you want. Then you can drag that template on top of the titles in your timeline. Select “Replace from Start”. I think as long as you named your text layer the same as what the original effect had, it should transfer the original text over. Or maybe it will work even if you don’t. Worth a shot.
I do this all the time for changing Lower Third styles.

I made this little Motion template to do a similar thing. Set the strobe rate to the frame rate of your sequence. Then you can adjust the wide-time settings to get some motion blur. Not sure if it will work or not with your particular situation, but worth a shot.
