Is this any different than ClipExporter 2? That’s what I use for this purpose. And the non-MAS version can handle MXF files.
EDIT: Nevermind, now I see it creates an XML file to reimport to FCP X, which ClipExporter doesn’t.

While it may be talked about often, amongst heavy users adding clips INTO the timeline is not the feature that makes editing in the FCP X timeline more efficient. So largely I think this is an irrelevant discussion. And besides the fact, the real question is what happens to the clips in other tracks that span the edit point you are dropping the new clip into.
The features of the FCP X timeline that are true time-savers are: audio connected to video, elimination of track collisions, MOVING clips in the timeline once they are already there, secondary storylines that don’t change regardless of what you do in the primary (this makes editing music much, much easier).
And this ignores what many of us realize is the real productivity boost in FCP X – the browser. The combination of favoriting, skimming, keywords, and filmstrip views are simply without peer in the NLE world.

If you can limit your shared storage space partitioning to hard drive size – 6 or 8 tb – then you can mirror to a set of 2 individual drives per shared volume. I just don’t like the idea of a RAID being a backup. There is too much that can go wrong. With 2 single drives you have good redundancy. And you have a permanent backup. When your RAID fills up, you just delete the oldest partition and keep the backup drives as an archive.
I run a nightly synchronization on one of the backup drives. The other one stays in my house. Then I swap them every couple days. Simple and cheap. But downtime and restoration is the weak part with this scheme. You can always use the backup drives as local drives in a pinch. Also it works best if you only make changes to the newest partitions, essentially icing the old ones and using them for media file access only.

My situation was having two Displayport monitors with an HDMI monitor for full-screen playback. But half the time it would interpret the HDMI monitor as the Secondary Monitor and not the AV output monitor. So I’d have to make FCP X show on a single-display, then set up the HDMI monitor as AV. Then turn on the secondary monitor again. It was just too much trouble because you’d have to do it often when relaunching FCP X. Ultimately I gave up on it.
Where in the OS do you set monitor priority? I know you can set placement, but I’m not sure how with 3 monitors FCP X determines which is the secondary display.

Does that mean FCP X knows which is the secondary display? Whenever I’ve tried a similar set up using the HDMI port on the Mac Pro, it was nothing but aggravation. Sometimes FCP X would consider the HDMI monitor the secondary display, sometimes it wouldn’t. This was a few versions ago, but I basically gave up. I can take only so much.

I tend to agree with this. They seem to be more focused on the number of plug-ins they put out, rather than the quality and universality of any given plug-in. I do think MotionVFX is a cut above, though I often find limited utility with them also. These days I only get FXFactory plug-ins because of ease of installation and quality. Managing multiple computers with multiple plug-in vendors is a challenge. One nice thing about PixelFilm Studios is they don’t require authorization which makes deployment so much simpler.
I’ve had problems with MotionVFX breaking themselves when I run synchronization routines to keep Motion Templates folders the same on all computers for custom developed templates. Not impossible to solve, but every time a vendor requires a special process for me I tend not to use them in the future.

I find the most video on the web is lower volume than CD’s. I would say it tends to be 5db to 10db lower in volume. But in social media these days, few people turn on audio anyways. Remember when people would lecture – “audio is just as important as the image.” I was always skeptical of this claim, and with social media now it is demonstrably untrue.

Look, I don’t have a dog in this fight. But I think that’s a bit of an exaggeration. Certainly there are effects that are derivative of other things out there. Of course multiple developers are developing similar things simultaneously. How many light leak plug-ins are there out in the world?
By my scanning of PFS offerings there is a lot that is unique. And they seem to be ridiculously prolific. So I’m not sure who they’d be copying for all of that anyways.

I get lots of crashes. Seems related to Motion Title Templates and plug-ins. I wish they’d make those more crash proof.
