As far as I know Compressor does not embed HD Ancillary CC so that will fail QC. Again MacCaption can embed the Ancillary CC in a QT file but as you said it’s costly.
Avid is not a good option with SCC Files as it only embeds the SD portion of the CC into the Ancillary stream. If you need the complete HD CC Ancillary Stream in your export you must use an AAF CC File. It also will not export the CC to a QT file, you have to export an OP-1a or AS-11 File to get proper HD Ancillary CC in your exports.

I have not been able to get HD Ancillary CC to come into Avid from QT files but it will show up as a Data Track from OP-1a MXF files.
I usually use MacCaption to extract the CC from QT’s and them export an AAF that Avid can import as a CC Data Track.

This problem would not have been caused by the DOP, this is caused by crappy cameras that shot AVCHD.
These cameras have no way to define what the file names are going to be and generally start at 00001.mts every time a new card is put in them. Some of these cameras will even start at random numbers when the next card is inserted in them.Renaming the files is not an option and will cause you more problems than relinking the files manually.
Hopefully the Cards have been offloaded to a well organized folder structure and the clips imported into Premiere in separate bins that are very well separated and organized. Each card should be offloaded to named sequential folder names and imported into separate bins named the same as the folder they are in to make them easy to find and relink.Either way manually relinking the clips with there original file names will be your only option because once the filenames are changed no NLE will relink to them properly or at all. If you’ve renamed them you will have to give them there original filenames or import the files again and recut them in.
Sorry but this is the hard way to learn that clean organized folder and bin structures are an absolute must, especially when there are clips with duplicate filenames.

Just as an FYI, the Monitor Output on that deck is for a VGA Computer Monitor.
I believe that it worked with a 1024×768 Monitor but if I remember correctly the video looked pretty bad through any monitor.\”MY MEDIA/PROJECT MOTTO: If you think three copies of your Media or Projects are enough. Take a moment to place a value on them and then maybe add two more.

HDCam cannot do 60 progressive fps the max it can do is 60i so the Intensity Shuttle will be perfect for his needs.

The BlackMagic Intensity may be a good option for you.
There’s a USB 3 and Thunderbolt version available and they start at $200.\”MY MEDIA/PROJECT MOTTO: If you think three copies of your Media or Projects are enough. Take a moment to place a value on them and then maybe add two more.

That’s not going to work.
The JH-1 comes in two versions, one with Component HD and the other with HDSDI outputs. If your JH-1 has the Component Outputs you will need a card with Analog Comoment Video inputs and Analog Audio inputs. In that case your going to have to spend at least $400. If it has the HDSDI Output then BM has a card that starts at $145 like Shane said.Sorry but your not going to be able to digitize HDCam tapes with an $8 card.
Please post a picture of the rear of your decks connectors.

There are AJA, Matrox, Bluefish and several other brands of cards or interfaces but BlackMagic seems to have the most cost effective units. You need something that can handle HD with the JH-1 Deck so don’t cheap out.

Buy yourself something like a BlackMagic Decklink Card.
If you don’t want to buy new then search eBay.
If you do buy something on eBay don’t purchase anything older than an Extreme 3D+.
Also make sure to ask the seller if all of the original Cable Harnesses are included.\”MY MEDIA/PROJECT MOTTO: If you think three copies of your Media or Projects are enough. Take a moment to place a value on them and then maybe add two more.
