The nanoFlash would be a great solution at a lower price point. Unfortunately at $3K I’m cheaper to buy 32GB Sony SxS cards.
So Craig mentions the ATP ProMAX, and Ron mentions the Hoodman adapter. Do these seem to be the best products at this point? Would this likely be a reliable combination?
What about the transfer speeds I’m getting into the computer? Is this normal for an SDHC setup, or should I be seeing speeds closer to what I’m getting with the Sony card? Would this likely improve with an ATP/Hoodman setup?

Nope, I have red 16GB cards, and am having lots of problems with them. Even getting media restore errors shooting 1fps timelapse footage.

Just had a chance to do some further testing with this (after getting errors on my “good” transcend card while shooting). Turns out one of the AFT adapters is bad. Copying a 3:15 clip took 4:45. When I put the card in my other adapter that time changed to :35 sec. So if anyone else has this problem, troubleshoot your adapters!

A little more background, now that it’s (successfully) behind me. This was a senior leadership training event for the US Army – teaching their Generals how to best conduct themselves with the media. We shot “interviews” with 21 officers, then the commanding general picked out a few clips that he wanted to show as good examples to the group at dinner that night. As it turned out both sessions went long and my editing time got cut down to 75 mins.
I was able to edit the clips and play them back from my MBP on the projector in their dinner room, as you guys suggested. I presented it to them as a way to get HD resolution on the projector and left the time issue out of it. They were thrilled and I got the job to do it again in January, so it all turned out well.

When I originally bid the project I was supposed to have 6 hours for editing. This new timeline was just announced on Friday afternoon.
The laptop playback will actually probably work fine. I’ll run some tests this afternoon, but I think that might be the best solution. Or is there any way to copy back to the card and play it back from the camera?

Ha ha. I’ve done a few of those cadaver shoots. Last one was a group of ear, nose and throat docs. Nothing like seeing people walk around with real heads in clear plastic bags.

Right, Clip Browser plays all of the clips fine, and they import into Premiere just fine as well. The only issue is getting them to play in XDCAM Transfer. Doesn’t sound like that’s going to work for me though.
I’m not planning on doing a lot of shooting in SP – the only time I would need that is studio setups where I’m monitoring/recording with OnLocation.
