This morning with fresh eyes, I ran some very basic tests. In a new project, I added an .avi clip to Trk 1 on the timeline and two .jpg photos on Trk 2. These two photos were placed joined together (back-to-back) on the timeline as I wanted them to play one after the other. Next, I entered multi-cam mode and started playback. Although I had selected “Cam 2” (photo trk 2) in the preview screen, the “blue box” moved to “Cam 1” (video trk 1) on its own after playing the first of the two back-to-back photos. Not what I want.

Then I tried a second test (new project) using the same video clip and photos, but “reversed” the track order. In other words, Trk 1 became the photo track and Trk 2 became the video track. Entered multi-cam mode, selected “Cam 1” which is now the photo track, and it played the back-to-back photos without switching to Cam 2 until after both photos had played. This is what I want.

Is there a “track priority” rule? Maybe one of you more experienced guys can speak to this.

For now, I’m happy because I have a solution, but would like to understand what is happening.

Sorry about my use of incorrect terms;
1) My reference to “toggle” means the ability to move around in the preview window during multicam “Enable multicam editing”, using a mouse click to highlight one of four tracks playing Simultenanouesly.
2) My reference to file saving means that after I “enhance” a .avi file, I do a “save as” as a .veg project file and use these files when creating a multi cam project.
I have successfully created several multi cam projects, but have always used two or more video files on the video tracks. Now I’m attempting to use photos (.jpg) on one of the video tracks so they appear from time to time together with the video. By the way, these are PowerPoint files (.ppt) saved as jpeg’s. Everything works fine if I use individual photos. I can select the photo or the video in multi cam editing. The problem happens when I want two or more photos to play one immediately after the other. I drag a .jpg onto a video track, then drag another .jpg onto the same video track and position it so that it “connects” with the previous .jpg. However, during multicam editing, I select (blue highlight) the photo track and it plays through the first photo but will return (blue highlight) back to the video track, instead of playing through the second photo first. It seems that it has something to do with the small cross-fade triangle on the upper corners of the photos on the track. The software is seeing these as a que to switch to the other track.

Yes, as best as I can remember, it is only during multicam. Again, I can successfully save the .veg I just created, but it sometimes crashes when I want to start a new file. I have been closing the saved file by just clicking NEW, maybe I should click CLOSE before NEW.

This is a single layer disc. Here is what I know from trial and error;

The burned DVD (62 minutes) plays fine on a set-top DVD player and fine on a computer DVD drive. The difference being that on the computer drive, one track fades out and immediately fades in to the next track, which is the desired effect. But the same disc played on a TV DVD player (I tried several) fades out and stays black for 3-4 seconds before fading in to the next track. Very much like a CD does between audio tracks. This delay is too long when viewing a video.
Not sure if this is a “live with it” or if there is a control somewhere I’m not finding.

Here is an update to my previous post regarding the “added time delay between tracks”.

According to the Vegas User Guide, there is a specification in Red Book that sets a standard for an audio CD that requires a 2 second pause at the beginning and end of each CD track. This means that there is a 4 second delay between tunes on a CD. I’m wondering if this also applies to DVD’s when there is an audio track embeded. This seems to be what is happening to my project.

Anyone with similar experience or knowledge?

I’m not sure I totally understand what you are saying. Here is an example of waht I have done; In Vegas I opened a new project that contains a video clip (big band) that was previously edited and saved as a .veg file. This clip is dragged to the timeline. From Explorer I selected an audio clip previous imported and saved as a .wav file, and dragged it to the timeline. I then had to sync the video and audio tracks. This was then saved as a new .veg file and then rendered as a .mpg file. So now in Architect I have a number of these previously rendered clips that are added to the playlist, and then re-rendered when I burn a disc.
Are you saying that the .wav audio file should be rendered as and mpeg2 file before using it in a project? This is where I’m confused.

Thank you Danny,
I hadn’t used the event splitting feature before. It works well with the video FX I was trying to create.
Regarding the audio; I’ve searched the audio plug-in manager looking for a plug-in that would make my audio track sound like it was recorded in the 1920’s. The plug-ins are not well documented so short of trying every one, are you aware of one that will do what I’m looking for? Maybe there is a 3rd party plug-in.
