If its a DV timeline the Full-screen image size should be 720 x 480 (rectangle pixels) DPI is unimportant.

And since NTSC can’t reproduce the resolution of a computer,
its easily possible to create graphics that a too complex to read-well on video.Gaussian Blur is the blur to use to reduce “image buzz”.
Set it to a low number (between .25 to 2.5 is a good start). -

The DVD format (standard “video” DVD) uses much more compression than DV.
It would re-compress your DV files to a much smaller (and lossy) size.Consider that an hour of DV is about 13 GB and a MULTI-hour DVD is only 4.7 GB (it can be multi-layered, but still its a highly compressed file).
You want a straight “numbers-to-numbers” clone of the tape if you want it to retain its full quality.
A FireWire between two camcorders or decks is the way to go.

Just record the audio on a DV camcorder (or whatever format you’re using for the Doco).
It will have timecode and can be saved (with that matching TC) for future use.

Many intermittent problems are “mechanical” in nature.
As units get shipped, moved, and jostled… and ambient temperatures cause swelling and contraction, “loose conncetions” can become fairly common.
I have fixed dozens of components over the years by an doing the proverial “internal WIGGLE-search” and “Ribbon cable re-plug”.
A couple of years ago at a Pawn Shop, I found a $1200 INFOCUS video projector that worked intermittently, which I bought for $399.
Brought it home and in 20 minutes of replugging, it worked GREAT.Use it as my home theater video system.
So “putting it back in the trash” my be fine for those uncomfortable with the interior of electonic gear, but if you know something about circuitry and SAFETY, and can utilize a bit of down-time to make some explorations, you might be able to “save the life” of an otherwise “lost” bit of technology (and keep some extra $$$ in your pocket).
The reason I first suggested finding a “HAM operator” to look at it, is that they DO know electronics and many find the challenge of fixing (still viable) gear part of the FUN.

Not the same thing.
A “backup copy” dub is not “editing”.
Our real problem here is that it is actually counter to the law to duscuss how to “get around” a copy-guard system.
OTOH, if you WERE able to dub the DVD to a VHS “backup” and just happened to pause the VHS deck during the “naughty bits” I don’t know who would complain.

Several ways.
1. Record to a DV tape and import to FCP.
2. Use FCP’s VO tool and record directly in FCP.
3. Record to any Mac audio software and export to FCP.

What form is the list in NOW?
If it was created in a word processor, you can “Copy-and-Paste” from that into FCP Title 3D or LiveType or…
But one of the fastest ways I can think of to do this is…
In Title 3D:
Create the first one of these.
Make it exactly the style and LENGTH you want each name-clip to be.
Add the Ramp-in (fade-up), “Zoom-in”, and Ramp-down (Fade-out) by using keyframes in the Motion Tab.
Render it, and “check it” to be SURE it is what you want.
When satisfied, drag this completed clip back to the Browser (rename it so you’ll know where it is) then drag it into the Viewer and Edit it, over and over, into a new timeline (until you have the correct number of name-clips that you need).Then, one at a time, click each successive clip back into the Viewer and Copy-and-Paste a new name on each new clip until you’ve remade them all.
Render the timeline.This Copy-and-Paste will take a very long time.
But if you want to treat EACH NAME as an individual effect, “long and complex” is the name of this game.
