Its a very ANTIQUE way of working (some post houses are slow to change).

No, you can’t do this “inside” FCP.

You’d need to have a recording deck with a TC “OUTPUT”.

You would feed the deck with FCP as the soruce (it can’t be the FW input, as you would need to be using the analog inputs for the rest of this “scheme” to work).

So you’d need to feed FCP from a “video card or box”
The recording deck (while it was recording the video and audio (Ch.1) and getting the TC via the breakout box) would send the “audio of that TC” signal (analog TC is actually an audio frequency) out of its “TC out” jack, which you would loop into the Audio 2 input on the same deck.

Sounds complicated?
Yep. That’s why I said it was an “antique” way to work.

The audio is, by default, intentionally MUTED to the Mac’s speaker output during Log and Capture.

So you should normally monitor the audio directly from the camcorder or deck you are using to capture. (It is the preferred method.)

CAUTION:
Many people have reported that noise or “pops” appear in the captured clips if the Mac’s internal audio is left on WHILE capturing… so may want to choose “Off During Capture.”

However, there is a way you can turn ON the Mac’s speaker if you really WANT to:

In FCP4x and earlier:

Final Cut Pro (menu) > Audio/Video Settings… > Capture Presets (tab)

“Duplicate” the Capture Preset you are now using, when the window opens rename it (I added “MacAudioOn” to the file name).

Click open the “Advanced” button in the Audio section and turn speakers to “ON during Capture.”
The Mac speakers/audio-out will now play Audio during the preview in the Log and Capture window.

First, make sure YOUR Bars and Tone are accurate to your program material.

Thenn, ask your client’s SALES REP to ask the dubbing engineer to “take special care” to set your tapes up properly every time they “put them into” their playback system.

The SALES REP can explain that the client is “unhappy” with the playback quality and they need to keep the clients “happy”.

That should at least get your tapes some needed attention.

Are you viewing for quality on a EXTERNAL VIDEO MONITOR (and not the computer screen)?

Is your timeline set to HIGH quality?

Have you fully RENDERED any non-standard clips and effects?

Specifically noises that play for transitions and text motion?

Gotcha.

After you do the “obvious” things like:
Make sure unit is not in “Still Photo” mode.
Put in a new tape.

Then:
You had the right idea about removing the batteries and powering down for awhile to see if it would “come back”.

You need to do that again, but THIS time, after you remove the “regular” battery, ALSO remove the BACKUP Battery.
Its a lithium battery about the size of a US Quarter coin.
You’ll find it under a little square door on the camera body where the flip-out screen fits when closed.
After you remove the Backup Battery, see what kind it is and get a new one.
Install this new battery and then put the “regular” camcorder battery back on (or power with AC) and see if that clears the problem.

Hope that’s it, it has been known to cure similar problems.
