We believe we reproduced your problem on one of the iMacs in the lab and found a solution to it. The fix will be included in a free update to BCC 7 FxPlug within the next few weeks .
Thanks for reporting the bug.

August 10, 2010 at 5:49 pm in reply to: boris continuum 7.0.x freezes upon quitting AEI’m under impression that Adobe CS5 AE is not supported on Leopard even though you can successfully launch the app. I will dig deeper in our QA records. I have a feeling we saw the same problem in our QA lab.

Under the Mac Help menu there should be Boris RED Help. If that does not launch the main help page go to Applications/RED 4/Documentation/BorisRED4Help.html
Most of the phonebook is tacked inside Creating Effects chapter. The web-based help system can be found here:
https://borisfx.com/red/Red_4.0.2_Help/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm
I can see how it is easy to miss. It is linked as Online Help from the main RED landing page but not from our general documentation page. We’ll fix that omission. Thanks for pointing this out.

I do not see why you can’t launch RED standalone while Media100/RED is rendering. It will not speedup the render but it should be OK.

Markus,
Thanks for your thoughts. You’ll see more training options when RED 5 is shipping. We’ll consider a printed manual/tutorials as an option too.

I believe we still have RED 3 manuals somewhere in the backroom (they look like phone books) so we can send you one if you really want it. With RED 4 release we switched to hypertext-based online help which in my view is far superior to printed docs for the following reasons:
– it’s much more extensive because there is no page count constrain; our old manuals printed in two volumes 900 page each
– it’s full-text search-able and hyperlinked so it is much easier to navigate
– you do not need reading glasses to read it
– it’s aways with you, no need to lug phonebooks anymore, feel free to copy the folder to laptops, etc, no license restriction for intended use, you can even view it on our web site:

As you mentioned, Steve Oackley training DVD is another excellent source of info. In addition, feel free to ask questions here on the Cow’ BorisFX forum. If you question does not require testing in the lab it will be answered very quickly.
