Wow, I was living a BLESSED life for years – never once was I required to create a LOOP REGION to have (1) a single audio file or (2) multi-track audio WITH video footage AND still photos PLUS captions AUTOMATICALLY STOP PLAYING more than just a few frames past the end of the last track. An AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core 4400+ 2.21 GHz processor, Asus A8n-SLI Premium motherboard with 4GB RAM (the maximum it supports) with Windows XP Pro 64 bit as the OS. Audio cards from M-Audio: Delta Dio and Delta 1010 connected to its rack-mountable XLR-1/4″ interface to my Yamaha O1v digital mixer. Near-field MSP5 monitors from Yamaha or one of my three Sony MDR-V600 headphones brings the audio to my ears.

Current setup problems regarding six videos my benefactor enjoys, all less than 60 seconds long: three rendered to QuickTime movie files without a problem. The rest CONTINUES rendering as QuickTime movie files, BLACK SCREEN ONLY, for over 10GB of disc space if I allow the madness to continue. I regret making it sound as though I had been attempting to render to other web-friendly formats; I was not able to render to DVD Architect Pro 6, or whatever that current downloaded version is that I have.

I have installed Vegas 6 on an old non-Pro XP low-profile desktop (which has no space for the expansion cards) and I miss using that program, too bad my new footage is high def or I would roll the 64 bit machine back to it’s prior state.

I have music videos that have been enjoyed by tens of thousands of people worldwide, but that’s in the past, I will do this ASAP: full-format of the new AMD machine system hard drive, with installment of WIN 7 x64 Pro and Vegas Pro ONLY. Who knows, I may get luck again.

Took a while for a response from Sony re: the early posts referenced here. Been too busy to test (again) what the advice I received told me to do, which is this:

Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software.

That is how the software is supposed to function. Unless you create a loop region in the timeline and press play, the project will keep playing until you press stop. Using loop regions will allow a play and stop point to be made and will only run between those points.

If you still have a follow-up question on this particular incident, please feel free to update it. If you have a completely different question, please create a new incident.

Has anyone been able to solve a problem like mine by simply creating a loop region? Also, this has nothing to do with the problem, which is Vegas Pro 12 continuing to roll long after there is nothing any longer on the timeline. Also, it doesn’t address the fact that 3 of 6 videos WILL render to a different format, while the OTHER 3 won’t. BTW, I update the incident, still haven’t heard back and that’s mostly why I had not posted THIS response until now.

I’m stuck, still, here’s what’s happening. When I load my video footage and DON’T delete the (stereo) audio track, the playback rolls a number of frames in black past the end but then STOPS beautifully.

As soon as I make any edits – equally of course to both tracks – I get the problem with the playback in black going on for a long time, though less long that it was before. I have deleted everything in Media Manager except for the source / m2ts file that I mentioned previously and the now-three listed veg files, one of which is the current file, THE OTHER TWO were edit versions. If I attempt to delete the veg files that are NOT this one, I continuously receive a Fatal Exception era, Vegas crashes, and I recover the file successfully. Ironically, if I’d had my SD camcorder replacement parts installed for $85, I’d still be back in Vegas 6 flying though this project. Granted I’d wonder about what I was missing, but I’d not be caught where I am.

I deleted all segments of my edited footage from the timeline, can’t find any hidden portion anywhere. Panasonic supplied ‘editing software’ with my camera; I hate the idea of having to learn that and live with it.

Meantime, I downloaded the QuickTime codec, that’s waiting with five options anytime I chose to use it. Much appreciated, as is the tip on trying the Avid version, which I hope to try one day WHEN I get past this problem.

THANK YOU everybody, it turns out I’m a forgetful idiot and indeed, the problem with the timeline was of MY MAKING. At one point I did recall the Veg file change I had made, and how it could have caused my problem, but I failed to undo the change BEFORE posting here.

I also didn’t check for an option to turn off the stereo mic on my new camera. The footage may one day have narration added, but for now there won’t even be captioning. While there will be a brief text intro to the different video sections to view, it will all most likely remain ‘silent movies’ forever.

To reduce file size and hasten rendering, I had deleted the audio tracks from a couple Veg files and forgotten to start anew, then AGAIN edit the footage with audio tracks. I am humiliated but extraordinarily grateful to the forum respondents and readers; here’s hoping I can ask a two-part question before washing all this egg off my face.

When I have my Veg files completed, what would be the optimal rendering choice to make? My audience doesn’t even want audio; they will be posting their chosen output to provide online views of their amazing interior and exterior facility. They will probably want a total of six to 10 short videos, so I’m wondering what format will (1) have the smallest file size, while (2) be the best choice for online viewers in numerous, disparate locations. Quite a contrast there; is such a combination possible?

I’m beginning to fear this is an operating system problem, but I won’t, of course, get to know that until I install the non-Enterprise version of 64 bit Windows 7. BTW, that was ‘end of file’ that I stupidly put double quotation marks around in my last post, doh!

Thanks for responding guys, my wild ride continues. Not aware that the Vegas Media Manager situation has also changed radically, I just downloaded and installed it. Learning the new rules of using it, that will take more time.

For now, I only have one file open with Vegas, per ‘ALL MEDIA’ and I have checked the other bins, there is NOTHING ELSE! I went back to my source file, which was named by the camera as 01-10-2014_132532.m2ts. This version has no still photos or edits, yet Vegas still does not stop at the END of the footage.

Is there some kind of “end of file” feature in Vegas Pro 12 that I can use, to get through what I’m hoping is the final hurdle to jump in my conversion to current-world reality?
