I recorded my whole screen, you’re saying I should export it 1280×720?
-
Its SD. I kinda found out a solution. I multiplied my 720×480 twice then scaled up my SD video and scaled down my HD video, now everything is just about perfect! I’ve been trying get it to work for quite a while….

If I do a screen capture that matches my video frame resolution, I loose quality when I export it for my timeline size, since I’m exporting from 1680×1050…

Could I change the timeline to something other then DV?

Okay thanks, but just so I know for next time, lets say I record my screen. When I export it to 720×480, its really unclear, how can I record my screen (1680×1050) for a NTSC 720×480 timeline and keep the quality… Thanks!

Okay, thanks a lot! I really appreciate the time everyone has taken to help me out!
All the best,

The first thing I do is make a 720×480 comp, then drag in my 1680×1050 video. Its scaled up by default, since it’s higher quality. Then the quality is great, but when I ‘scale the comp to fit’, I loose most of the quality, thats what I’m showing when I zoom into the comp, the text is not as really legible.
The next thing I do is scale the comp up, using the ‘V’ key and then the quality gets better. It seems that when the video is scaled up, the quality is better, and when I scale to fit, it looses quality…

I don’t know if you can see my problem, I know that if I scale up a video, I’m supposed to see a loss in quality, but the problem I’m getting is that when I scale up the video %200 the clarity of the video gets better and when I fit it to the comp, its gets worse…

I’ve included part of the video that I’ve been having problems with. I still don’t understand why I’m loosing so much quality when I drag it into my FCP timeline (720×480) and when I rescale it in AE using a 720×480 comp…
*EDIT – The same thing is happening in FCP, when I drag it into my 720×480 timeline, when it’s scaled it, the quality is better and when I scale out the quality gets worse…
You can download part of the video below

I made a new comp, and made it a NTSC Widescreen (1.21). I then took my original video, (already exported from AE) and dragged it into my new NTSC (720×480) comp. It still happens, the more I scale in, the better the quality is, the more I scale out, the worse the quality gets.
I tried ‘Fit to Comp’ and ‘Fit Height to Comp’ and I still get the same unclear results… I’m seeing these results in After Effects preview window and the quality is set to ‘full’
