A UV filter (for UV haze) won’t help you on outdoor exposure control. You need to use the camera’s ND filters. I don’t know about the PMW-200, but I have had color shift (toward green) issues when using a polarlizer on an EX1. A polalizing filter will knock down some of the light level, as well as cutting glare and saturating a blue sky.

Here’s a run down on what Vortex Media cards offer.

Take a look at page 6 to see how each card effects the white balance.

For another option you can use a Rosco Jungle Book to manual white balance.

You should balance to a white card, not gray. The warm cards are to cheat the camera toward red (warm) by removing some blue in the picture. You can do this in your camera profiles, too by adjusting the color matrix. This might be helpful.

Seems like the Rode shotguns are popular for this.

May 9, 2013 at 3:20 pm in reply to: Sony ECM-77b low output?

Thanks Jim. You are right. I actually have one of those and I think it sounds great. The only thing about it that I don’t like is the stiff cable. I’ll go back to ebay looking for another. Thx.

I always thought it sounded a bit thin as well. Guess I’ll have to do some research on lavs. Thanks.

Right. A repair shop told me it would be better to replace it. It’s at least 10 yr. old. They said it was probably the FET or capsule going bad. Thx for the replies.

I looked at the inside of the capsule and everything looked fine. I cleaned it anyway and the output is still very low, so it could be in the amplification stage or the capsule has gone bad. Sony wants $192 for the board and $80 for the transformer. I called Sony tech support and they said send it in for an estimate. Any other ideas?? Thanks.

April 28, 2013 at 2:49 pm in reply to: EX3 S video to monitor

I don’t know about the EX3, but on the EX1, I believe S-video is only available in HDV mode. So, you would need to use CAV or composite out in HD mode for analog output. Composite out is a dog.
