True. A great chair is one of the best investments you’ll make. But if you don’t want to look selfish, you’ll have to get the same chair for all your visitors.

There are discussions on the COW about the virtues of standing while editing, either all or part of the time. If you are so inclined, a “standing desk,” or a desk that can shift heights, would be a great asset.

Disclaimer: my remarks are based on zero experience with this particular situation, but a lot of experience with green screens.

I assume you’re going to test the whole chroma-keying process for production flow before committing to this. It sounds like a potential nightmare in that space and for that amount of production; you have to assess whether the pay-off is worth the added cost and time in post-production. Unless you are keying live.

For a space that small, you may want to consider a partial green screen area, or even 2-3 nice plasma monitors in the “set,” over-the-shoulders of each correspondent.

The other aspect to Richard’s original post is that he had a sixth sense of potential trouble. I’d rely on that more than anything, including C.O.D. After all, checks can bounce or be stopped.

I assume you mean 1/8 etc. minus green. But I’ve never seen the need for minus green on my Diva. Perhaps the fact that I don’t white balance helps? (I use the tungsten Kino fluoro lights which are rated 2900K and set the camera to 3200K) But I also use their daylight and set the camera to 5600K.

On the face of it, one year doesn’t sound so bad – it’s the original period plus one renewal. But I’d attempt to negotiate down the percentage (from the start) in exchange for the one year. 1/3 seems high to me. And remember, Google indexes all of these threads.

I noticed that the Cache-A has a hard drive built-in. I assume the workflow involves copying from your media RAID to that drive?

If so, please let me share my paranoia with you. Currently I use an HP8200 Windows computer with a SCSI-attached HP Ultrium 920 LTO-3 drive. My workflow involves moving media files from the CalDigit HDOne (attached to my MacPro) over my gigabit Ethernet network to the HP8200’s hard drive, and then over to the LTO-3 tape.

The big flaw (and source of my paranoia) in this workflow is the transfer from Mac to HP hard drive. There is no verification at this stage (although there is verification on the actual transfer to LTO-3 tape).

How would the Cache-A’s workflow differ? If data goes to the Cache-A’s hard drive, is it verified during that transfer, unlike my workflow?

I set up checking in Preferences, along with a folder location. I am highlighting the SxS card in the Explorer window’s left pane, then clicking the fifth button from the left (up top), which copies everything on the card to a folder which is given a numerical label based on year-month-date-hour-minute-second. I assume that I am at liberty to rename that folder later on.

Is this workflow correct? I don’t see any separate stage of CRC checking – I assume that goes on during the copy process.

Thanks again. This is very promising, although I may still need ShotPut or something similar for media from other sources like the GoPro. Or… not. I can always check the results by doing a Log & Transfer before doing a card erase, right?
