Mark, I share your pain but I think the solution is easy. Unfortunately, what I found at the end of the process is that the crucial part (regulating the speed of the scroll so that you don’t get any weird video artifacts as a result of conflicts with video scan rates) is far from straightforward.

Before you start typing, set up ALL of your tab marks, whether they are left-justified, center, or right. Then simply tab to the correct mark while typing in your text.

But as I said above, the speed regulation, at least in the Boris title crawl software included within FCP6, is worthless.

If I’m wrong, someone please correct me. I assume that Boris wants us to buy their upgrade to make scrolling titles.

Thanks Richard, although I try to avoid those kinds of topics. I was simply wondering whether this is something that a shooter really needs to worry about, given the in-camera processing as well as legalizing filters in the NLE.

Thank you very much. Great idea to use BCC4 for FCP, and the upgrade to BCC5 for AE8.

I tried installing BCC4, with the 4.1 Intel patch, for Intel FCP6, and it didn’t seem to work, unless I’m misunderstanding something.

In FCP 6, after all of the uninstalling and reinstalling and patching, the only video filter I see labelled as BCC4 is still the same Color Blurs folder holding BCC4 Color Match.

I can’t seem to figure out where adjusting the rate of scrolling happens. It isn’t just the position properties setting, is it?

very good Zane — I like the “Umm yes.” I should have been more explicit — the one I was trying to remember was the Digital Rebellion “Preference Manager” that DRW mentioned. Has anyone tried this? I am the Timid Guinea Pig now (but hey, I was a Beta Tester for years).

And all you guys on your high horses about project-specific settings — agreed! I have to change the settings for almost every project. But do you think the need for trashing pref’s would go away or be diminished by such a feature?

I know the TrashPref’s question is an almost-daily annoyance on this forum, but…

Did anyone else recently see something about a new Trash Preferences utility? I’ve been using the old, free FCP Attic from Chesapeake Computing, quite happily, but for some reason this new utility seemed pretty interesting — perhaps for saving a choice of pref’s??

I just downloaded a tutorial from Boris titled “Creating a Credit Roll.” This document states that “A complete set of tools for creating credit rolls is included with Boris Graffiti, Boris RED, and Boris Blue. The same functionality is available in Boris Calligraphy which is bundled with Apple Final Cut Pro…” Here’s the link: https://www.borisfx.com/tutorials/CreditRoll.php

Note that it says “the same functionality,” not “the same program.” The tutorial is based on Boris Graffiti, so I am not surprised that the tutorial’s step-by-step instructions don’t seem to relate to anything I find in my FCP Studio 2.

When I try to follow this tutorial, even approximately, in FCP, using “Boris/Title Crawl,” I don’t get the same results. For example, the tutorial offers a center-justified line, “Cast of Characters,” followed by left and right-justified columns for characters and actors.

I can’t seem to get that degree of flexibility. I can get just one kind of justification at a time. So, is this tutorial just plain wrong about “the same functionality?”

Or, did I fail to install some software when I installed FCP Studio 2?

Is there a tutorial that DOES relate to the s/w that is in my FCP?

Finally, any rec’s for the current best way to do this inside FCP would be most welcome. I’ve been resorting to After Effects for all of my scrolling.

What can I add to all those encomia? DRW is funny, but he is even nicer than he is humorous. He’s knowledgeable, and also eager to learn more. A great addition to a terrific line-up. Ron knows his livestock.

David, a public thank you, for kicking my b— to learn FCP, and then for showing me around the pasture, and setting me on the right path, I don’t know how many times.

As anyone who’s read his posts will know, David has many outside “pursuits:” starlets, diving, New Orleans jazz, a recent hint of something in his youth (I’m SURE that’s behind him), political rabble-rousing, even the sin of golf.
