Check your After Effects bit depth settings–if they’re at 8-bit, bump to 16 or 32. Banding like that could be due to lower project bit depth.

You might also try shooting with a full blackout outside of the window, and using a simple blending mode to overlay your “outside” footage. That would preserve your dirt and reflections.
Or, go old-school (which is back in fashion now) and shoot background plates for your exterior, and fire that footage onto a projection screen outside. You could even run the same clip a half second ahead on a second projector shooting in the window, out of focus, to simulate the effects of that lighting on the actor.
Like Oblivion, on a smaller scale. And you don’t need the huge screens, because you’re only seeing out of a single window.

Spend a bit more on set to get it practically, save a headache in post.
It would be worth shooting tests, if you can swing it. Quick and dirty, same interior lighting setup, grab two or three shots per setup, and change the exterior setup between takes. Then you can walk in to the shooting day confident.

Precompose your comp that has all your photos and transitions in it, right-click the new pre-comp, and apply Time Stretch. Enter the new total duration. Render. Kaboom. Your render time will be slightly increased, but it will take you less time than rebuilding the whole comp.
Note that this only really works when you’re dealing with keyframes and animations–AE is smart enough to tween the keyframes–but if you do this when there’s actual video in the pre-comp, you’ll end up with the usual framerate stutter issues that happen when you slow video down.

There’s no easy, fast answer to this; you need to hook up both cameras to a monitor, preferably one with a waveform scope, and start fiddling. The FS7 has more dynamic range than the EX1R, so you probably, for better or for worse, need to set up the EX1R to look the way you like, and match the FS7 to that look.
Obviously, you’ll want to shoot in Rec709 gamma on the FS7. Beyond that, I’m guessing that the EX1R is more contrasty, so you’ll want to dial in your settings in the Paint menu to match.

Keyboard shortcuts.
V toggles the selection tool, P toggles the pen, C toggles the razor blade. Use ’em, and you won’t lose any appreciable amount of time.

How about using Morph Cut in Premiere Pro?
You might have to do some preparation before using this effect. For example, you may need to roto out the actor from Scene 2 onto the background of Scene 1, so that you can place him in a location that is as close as possible to Scene 1 so the background doesn’t abruptly shift. Then render out Scene2_Comp, import to Premiere Pro, and use Morph Cut to blend them.

Hmm. This is a weird suggestion, but try changing your Preview resolution (from Full to 1/2, for example). I had a crazy weirdo issue this week with a sequence where I would animate a mask, but the changes wouldn’t show up on the Previews unless I forced AE to re-render at a different rez by changing the preview rez; and the REALLY weird part was that if I changed it back to a rez that I had used already, it would revert to whatever version of the clip had been showing when I last used that resolution. So I had basically four chances (one for each resolution) at previewing any change before I was hosed.

No guesswork involved, now that I’ve done some homework ☺ Premiere, it seems, is smart enough in this instance to interpret the footage correctly in the timeline when you do your desired speed changes.

January 5, 2017 at 5:46 pm in reply to: Intercutting 4K GoPro and 720P in MultiCam to output cropped/panned/scanned 720POh, regarding pixelation of GoPro shots: it occurs to me that you may want to check your field settings for your output–if the JVC’s XDCAM codec is forcing an upper or lower-field-first timeline, there may be a conflict with your GoPro media, which is fully progressive. Does this make sense?
