You want to format the drive in XP Pro’s “Disk Management” utility. Just do a normal format as NTFS, give it a drive letter, and you’re good to go. Note that if you try to use an NTFS drive on an OS-X Mac, you will be able to read from but not write to it.

You don’t do that in Avid. Some people use After Effects or Canopus Encoder to do that with varying results. But that’s what hardware standards converters are for.

In my experience, this will not work. Sequences are forward compatible but not always backwards compatible. At best you will get the cuts in the timeline but not any effects not available on the older system. At worst the sequence will crash the system. Whether the media will work on the older system depends on whether it’s a Meridian or ABVB system.
Your best bet if you want to edit on an older Avid might be to use an EDL to transfer the edits and redigitize the footage.

The Alchemist Platinum does not do HD cross-conversion. The Ukon converter does, but you will get severe motion artifacts in most cases. The preferred method is to play the 24fps footage at 25fps so you get a 1:1 image transfer.

When you import or capture anything into an Avid, you create OMF or MXF media. That is the native format of Avid media, and that is what happened to your Photoshop file — Avid turned it into media that you can now edit with.
There are timeline markers for your use. If none of your buttons are set to markers, open
+3 (the command pallette — the source of all buttons in Avidland) and you will find at least 8 colors of markers (they look like buttons with a colored dot). Reassign the buttons as desired. To use, just scroll to the desired position on the timline. You can even put text notes into the markers. Bill Stephan

I’m not an expert on this, but you can author a .pdf in Adobe Acrobat that can run Quicktime, Windows Media or MPEG movie. If you need to run parts of a DVD-Video from the .pdf file, that is quite another matter. You then need an application such as Macromedia Director, which allows you to place a DVD player app within a presentation.
You can go the other way, running a .pdf from a DVD-Video interface using eDVD 4.

You don’t have the input level controls like to do on Media Composer or higher systems. I use a cheap TBC to set input levels & clean up the signal before digitizing.
