Yeah, well. as with many profit driven businesses – customer satisfaction will NEVER be a priority unless and until it can be proven to effect the bottom line.
Add the fact that every month that a user does their work inside a “than you for letting us control of your IP” subscription model – the ability to leave gets more and more difficult as the months pass.
I have a modest 5000 or so photos from the past few years that I’ve edited/enhanced via Lightroom.
And those hundreds of hours of work are now dead to me.
Oh well. My fault. I simply should have found an alternative sooner.

Not in my experience.
I just a couple of weeks ago I FINALLY got untangled from the Adobe Subscription mess I’ve been in for the past few years. It took me three additional phone sessions over the past 1.5 months.
I had to make two calls and then unscribe the week prior to my anniversary date for one of my phantom subscriptions (the one they could usually locate), after telling them I wanted to stop ANY AND ALL ADOBE SUBSCRIPTIONS. I THEN – waited a month – and sure enough – I got billed again for the phantom subscription – only when I again called about THAT was Adobe able to suddenly locate the second billing subscription (which was under the same email ID I’d been giving them ALL ALONG in my communications with them.)
It’s as if because there were two “accidental” subscriptions – one was functionally buried behind the other and wouldn’t show up in their system. (maybe. Who knows. I’ve spent hours and half a dozen long drawn out phone calls trying to get this fixed.)
This month, July 2017 is the first time in 3 years I have managed to get my auto-draw payments going to Adobe down to Zero.
(I lit an extra firework on the Fourth yesterday in celebration.)
Again, it’s a fine program that appears to work well for many people. But the entire back end off-shore billing operation is functionally AWFUL in my direct personal experience.
May you happily let Adobe bill you forever, feel it’s totally worth it – and never have to disentangle yourselves from them financially. And if you do, I pray you’ll have a better experience than I did.
Debating whether it’s useful to try to recover the two years and $220 they billed me for something I never touched – or to just lick my wounds and count my blessings that it’s OVER now (save the “special subscription offers” that keep arriving.

Huh? When I watch an episode of Sherlock, or Elementary or even the great Jeremy Brett BBC Holmes-based content from years ago – I usually already know the outlines of the story there as well.
That hardly stops me from being interested.
Plus, At NAB I got to see the Off The Tracks initial preview.And I thought it really held together as a story.
Remember a LOT of us in that preview crowd are reasonably experienced media professionals often with years of editing experience – so it was a pretty tough crowd. I think we were all pretty surprised at how engaging the story we watched was.
At its heart, it held together as a piece of storytelling. Period.
And truth be told, it starts with a rehash of a LOT of the negative X stuff. Nobody seemed to sugercoat anything in what I watched. There was criticism galore. And, of course, the vast majority of the people in it are people I actually know. So it was fascinating to hear them explain their thinking in more depth. Obviously since it was recorded at an X specific event – most of those appearing represent people who stuck with it long enough to get past their initial shock. But they really didn’t come across as fanboy zombies. Largely because they were able to articulately explain their REASONING for their opinions pretty clearly. So it was fascinating to hear what others were experiencing while I was experiencing the same events.
Look, this is really no different from Poker Players going to see a documentary about other Poker Players that includes people they know.
If it succeeds in giving the viewer a window into about how others think about Poker strategy – I would expect to have that be particularly interesting to people who know a lot about Poker.
And I would fully expect there to be a lot of poker players who will be MORE than ready pick apart every single perceived flaw and loudly air their disagreements with any and all conclusions aired in this by any participant.
As this group FULLY understands – creating work – means it goes out and people criticize it. Period. Full stop.
Should be interesting around here when it comes out!

What makes you think the documentary is about “defending” anyone’s use of anything? Maybe it’s actually about what the director has always publicly said it’s about…an examination of how people confront and manage technological change.
What might be REALLY crazy is if people would just be patient – look at the work when it comes out – and THEN judge it based on what it actually IS – rather than what everyone is pre-assuming what it will be when it finally arrives.
Wait … that kinda make me think about something that happened six years ago…
Let me think about it for a while.

Just don’t get stuck in the same “and everyone experiences this like I do” trap.
My wife is an instructional specialist and knows a lot of learning theory. She’s always told me that there are many natural learning modalities that different individuals favor in their unique mental mix of how they learn.
It sounds like you’re what she occasionally described to me as an “experiential” learner.
I never understood the distinction very much until we set out to raise a son who’s HEAVILY weighted as an auditory learner. He struggled in schools with anything written, but during the 4th Harry Potter book I read to him, if I’d reference something small and basically arcaneI’d read to him from the first book – if I got it even slightly wrong – he’d quietly correct me and 10 out of 10 times he’d be precisely correct. He soaked up learning by LISTENING like a sponge. Watching or doing, somewhat less.
I suspect fields like Editing that require particular audio and visual acuity tend to attract people who tilt towards the communications modes that support that – so there might be some general similarities between us in the same way that many really tall athletes tend to drift toward basketball – but if you don’t watch out, it might turn out to be a bit easy to fall into the trap of thinking that because someone isn’t exceptionally tall – they won’t have exceptional basketball sense.
It’s interesting to discuss, anyway.

Pretty sure Location Sound in California had a similar solution for this as well.
7506 drivers mounted into Aviation Headsets, IIRC.
As noted DO NOT use any typical phase based noise cancellation circuitry. The ambient will be so strong it’s totally mess up what you can hear.
In ear would work as well, but if so, make sure you use them with a system that puts a brick wall limiter on the gain. It’s super easy in a loud sound field to have ear fatigue push you to into gain creep as your ears adjust.
Doesn’t take much to start hearing deterioration in this type situation.

I have long been informed by my personal unimpeachable source (my wife, a trained instructional specialist) that whenever you try to shoehorn something inherently complex into a set of simple descriptive shoeboxes – things get ugly fast.
People are complex.
Conditioning in ALL its forms is also complex.
Worse, I suspect it nigh onto impossible to neatly say “learning took place exclusively due to this or that educational modality.
I have carried that swimming cadence in my head for decades because the association was myleanated DEEP in my brain by my instructor that when I swim – it will likely help me swim efficiently.
But when I sprint a bit and need more oxygen – I screw with the cadence. It’s situational. Like all good conditioned responses maybe should be?
When I sit to start a new editing project now and Launch X – in a similar fashion the simple question of “can the database at my disposal help me do my work.” Is triggered. Before X that stage was missing. I understand that a Premiere editor may similarly get triggered to ask themselves “will a pre- sort of selects into a pancake array help me do my work? In each, the editor seeks to “pre-sort” and thereby narrow their focus.
How they build the habit to seek “presortedness” is kinda irrelevant. Most editors seem to find the step valuable. Mostly.
Those like Simon who feel more comfortable going for the ultimate universal stringout and full-tilt carving approach should have everyone’s blessing.
The bottom line for my wife always appeared to be “if the kid learns differently but effectively – and that’s demonstrable, you’re still good.”
Same here I suspect.
This is arguing differences without distinctions because there are WAY to many variables on the table to reach solid conclusions about this stuff.
Not that that’s ever slowed us down here much!
