Does the timeline play?
I have seen this exact message when the permissions for one clip in the timeline were not set correctly. If you are using a clip that someone else created, make sure that you have the permissions to access the file.

Be careful using Compressor to output Mpeg2, there have been isssue with 2 Pass VBR, it looks like crap.
What works for me is to install the Mpeg2 Codec that come with DVD Studio 2 or some other application. Once that Codec is installed, you can export from FCP and choose that Mpeg2 Codec, configure the setting to 5.5 Mbit Target Rate and 7.5 Mbit Max Rate and make sure it is set to 2-Pass VBR.
that works well, looks good and you don’t have to figure out Compressor.

On one of the other sites, I posted the same question and one of the responces I got suggested that I use iTunes to preview the SXF, but when you find the one you want, you can say “Show File” or something like that, which will open the folder the file is in, so you can just drag the original into FCP.
That doesn’t sound too bad. Though I would pass it on.
