Some years ago I was taken to Sony Weybridge for one of those “don’t tell anyone” demonstrations. It was a vision mixer (switcher), and they were terribly proud of the way it integrated with Sony linear editors, and that even the numbers on the wipes were the same.
This was at the point where we were just beginning to leave linear editing behind, and we hadn’t done a wipe in years. Very similar to the current situation, really.

Why bother – it’s just an operating system, similar to others. It doesn’t do anything better or worse, just slight;y differently to W7 or Linux. In fact, it is a very close cousin of Linux anyway.
Currently, if you want the latest fastest gear, you need a PC. That’s not just some sales thing or partisanship, it’s a fact. Maybe Apple will come up with some wonder machine, but they haven’t. So go build a PC and add Edius, and you’ll wonder why you stayed with the dead horse for so long.

Looked like a lot of shots of women athletes to me, pulled together from the OBS pool footage. I think if someone had set out to shoot pervy stuff they could have done a lot better than that. In fact, just wandering near the various venues in the London parks the other day I could have done much better than that.
Of course, I didn’t stand a chance of getting an actual ticket to the women’s beach volleyball, as it was one of the most popular on the games. Can’t think why.
As for the “does Usain Bolt have sprint genes” film – well made stuff asking a perfectly sensible question.
I didn’t find either film especially emotionally charged, but I live near London, and maybe we just think differently. London is one of the most culturally and racially diverse cities in the world, and the women in the parks in summer don’t necessarily wear a lot. AND you can get a good meal from anywhere in the world just by walking down the street.

Compared to before, one assumes. Not compared to a 2012 PC with a core i7, a GTX680, and an SSD carrying the operating system. Not that my machinery has all of that very expensive stuff, but I did upgrade various bits earlier this year because my 2008 kit was soooo slow. The SSD is a very good addition.

So what would happen if you put a proper modern graphics card in your 2006 MacPro, instead of a 2009 fossil? Say – an Nvidia GTX 570? I suppose you would need a driver from somewhere….?

• Firewire 800 – Thunderbolt”The odd one out is first one, which is common to all desktops – and the adapter always comes free with the graphics card. VGA is of course still standard on most laptops that are not Apple. Helps when you are doing your Powerpoints in university lecture theatres. Just plug in.
The others are mainly Apple, and we found to our cost in time and money in an emergency that if the only laptop around has Firewire 800, your standard Firewire cables don’t fit. Much angst and shouting and running to the local Apple shop.
Another upgrade common to all systems is USB. Same connector for all flavours. No problem.
