Did you ever find a workaround or a fix for this, Tomas? 🙂

Hmm, so it works but it makes ae reeeally slow.
So what I want to sample is the precomp at 2s / frame 50 (comp is set to 25fps) and make it auto-center vertically from that point in time. Just once, I dont want it to calculate from start to finish.

I have used your expression and changed line 2 and changed t=2. I have also freeze framed the invisible copy, but it still makes everything really slow.

    Maybe this is not doable?

    Thank you!

This works, but it looks like it’s constantly calculating making after effects halting and sometimes crashing. There are animations going on inside the comp, but only the first few frames before the animation stops/”lands”. Any workarounds for this?

We have him cutout using the roto-brush (which sort of does it automatically). I believe the effect will be more noticeable as there are a lot of other graphics in the same style.

  • Okey sounds fair, I think I already knew that it would not work. I’ve found a workaround that does the job, but its not perfect. I am stuck with the problem that occur when two masks are in the same position (you get a line/edge). Have a look: https://imgur.com/a/wnu5YgK

I’ve simply used the c4d renderer in AE and extruded the shape layers which are behind the “test comp”. The test comp is on top, pickwhipped to the 3d shape layers behind and rotated from there. This workaround is a hassle, I will need a masked comp on top, shape layer in the middle and eventuall a masked comp layer behind. It works, but the only thing that is bothering me is the lines that appear. The screenshot above is from in the middle of the animation, the bottom “blinds” have not yet startet its animation so you can see what it looks like.

I do like the 3D extruded effect and I intent to keep that look, but I will say that the lines do dissapear if I go back to the Classic renderer.

    Any tips?

  • Hi Dave, thanks for your reply!

I think I’ve found the “solution” to this problem, no error since yesterdays and I have been working for a about 5 hours now so I assume its gone.

I noticed that the error didnt pop up on any other project (AE 2018 or 2017), just this perticular .aep. This was the project I was working on when the language changed so I guess thats why everything else works fine, while this aep doesnt. I have tried to create a new AE2018 project and import my “infected” aep, but this didnt work as the error would pop up after importing.

What is super weird is that I would open up my project and sometimes the error would popup almost instant or sometimes after a few seconds. What I noticed that the error only popped up when I opened the comp (Comp 3) that I was working on when the language changed, meaning that the bug only exist on that comp only. I have since then deleted the comp and voila, no problem. The comp consisted of roughly 4-5 shapes layers, nothing advanced and no text layers. I find this super weird, but I guess a comp can somehow become buggy?

Well, I’ll post back if anything changes – but for now I think all is good.

    Thank you very much!
    Ben
