    How does

“Io HD is the first and only device to natively support Apple?s newly introduced ProRes 422 post production format in hardware.”

    differ from

“Multibridge Eclipse – Full compatibility with the new Apple ProRes codec in Final Cut Pro”

Both were announced at the same time; both do it in hardware?

Yeah well it seems CS3 has no support for it so the decision is made especially now that FCP has version 6 released AND is cross platform. Who would have ever thought; FCP running on a windows computer!

Yeah… sorry, I was actually refering to the OMF project export for use in audio post, not the Avid media format.

“Was this time remapped?” – no

“Or done as a constant speed change?” – yes

“Did you make sequence clips independent first?” – yes

“During Media Managing, did you ever check or enable “adding media outside of selection”” – no

The fact that it media managed everything else correctly indicates my proceedure was correct.

The original digibeta tape a was 90 minute telecine transfer ingested as DV. There were 7 commecials edited from this material. As an example, one of the commercials, a 15 sec spot required 19 secs of media to recapture. Now I think that is correct given that I had some handles set when MM’ing. So I really do think this speed change thing is a bug.

On a lighter note I reported it as a bug but I now realise I reported it to Adobe as a Premiere Pro bug! (old habits die hard)

So I have just finished another ON LINE from an off line and followed all the suggested steps and all went OK except for one clip that was a 70% speed. The final slowed clips duration was 1 second 15 frames long but the media manager wanted to recapture 9 mins and 23 seconds!!!!! … just for this one clip!!!! The in and out points in the bin were the correct times so WHERE is it getting this dis-information from? AND I am using 5.1.4 so… as they say in mythbusters… BUG… CONFIRMED!!!

    Anyone have an easy workaround?

I use both Ppro 2 AND FCP 5.1.4 and I can tell you that each have their good and bad points. I have found a marriage of both apps that get my workflow done albiet with lots of workarounds. I suggest maybe you do the same; have both available to you.

I don’t know if this will help you guys but I only run Multibridge on a PC but I have a Aja IO on FCP 5.1.4 and the edit to Digibeta is frame accurate 100%. And I am in PAL land.

Seeing as Premiere Pro CS3 is a version leap (2.0 to 3.0) rather than a dot leap (1.5 to 2.0) I would expect far more new stuff/fixes than what we got with PPro 2.0. Well lets just say I am really really wishing! PPro 2.0 had plenty of bugs and ‘oversights’ but still was a great version (when compared to previous versions).

My only wish is that they took on the plethora of bug reports I and many others submitted over the 14 months so far. The first thing I will do when I get the beta version is go straight to those problem area’s and test them; and then if they have been fixed I will go invest in the upgrades (multiple in my circumstance).

But, IMHO, Adobe are pushing their product line in any direction other than for professional broadcast production. While it can be done (and I am using it for that so don’t flame me) it can be done easier using the competitions product. But they have got to chase the bucks and there isn’t a lot of money in television production at the moment.

One thing that does intrigue me though… maybe I have been out of the loop for a while but…. how do you easily use the ‘on location’ facility when firewire cables are so damn short? Don’t you want to work away from the camera/talent? Sure I know you can get extra long firewire cables plugged into repeater hubs plugged into extra long firewire cables etc but maybe there is money to be made out of firewire/balun converters?

  • Well… in the part of the industry I work it is crucial to have a grade 1 external video monitor. This can be done with a monitor connected to a camera connected to the firewire card but that generally is only composite. I also need component or SDI monitoring at the least. … and then there are other formats than DV/HDV that need to be mastered… so there is a use for a capture/playback device; its just a pity that Canopus became ‘a closed shop’ solution. They use to have a motto “Just Edit” – I renamed it “Just ForgEdit”.

  • Yes as the guys have said… the Storm is over… now its time to clean up the mess.
