  • OH, btw, the MoCon scripts in the above thread were tested and created using the SynthEyes tracker for 3D statbilization. I love that package, and recommend it over Boujou and Match Mover.

  • We are doing this in our latest IMAX movie. To do it correctly, you need to have a built cockpit and accurate lighting for your scene. Then you motion track your pilot’s head, and create a 3D model of the helmet with a surface for your reflection. Finally you raytrace your helmet to rt the surroundings for your reflection pass. We have 4 specular, 2 reflections, 2 smudge passes. I know other productions that have 27 passes total doing this, but ack, that’s too much;)

    We are using a wonderful plug-in for AE called GrangerFX. With this plugin, I can do a raytrace render which acts as a look-up table for the reflection. Then I can replace a global reflection file anytime in AE, and it raytraces instantly. GrangerFX comes with the current versions of Electric Image.
