Okay, I actually tried to clips, one I didn’t compress with a new frame rate, one I did. When bringing both into Final Cut, the 25 fps clip played normally (in a 29.97 sequence), the one I changed the frame rate played faster and was out of sync audio wise. I wasn’t convinced the 25 fps footage was going to work, but my concern now is that when exporting the project later in 29.97, I fear the 25 fps stuff will get sped up or something and ruin the export. Do I want to compress to 29.97 then slow 4% to make it fit, or am I okay compressing the DV PAL using ProRes 422 and leaving the frame rate at 25? I’m totally new to PAL so any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That sounds good. Thanks! My biggest difficulty right now is getting frame rate to be compatible. I have 25 and 29.97 both in timelines, and they appear to be playing at the same speed, but I’m concerned exporting that timeline will have one of those clips end up playing at a weird speed, or getting some kind of odd visual/audio kink because of it. Will that happen, or is the frame rate less of a problem than i think?

Okay, so you suggest just ignoring AE’s “squishing” of the footage upon importing, and just treating it like normal and bringing it back into FCP should work? I’m getting ready to try another clip so I’ll see if what you’re describing makes sense when I’m looking at it. Thanks!

That’s interesting, because I did notice that and my next post was going to relate to why I am seeing footage claim to be 1280 and be 960. I trusted FCP when it changed my sequence settings to match the footage, and set it at 960. Although when I pulled it into AE it showed up squished on the sides, and I had to change the comp settings to 1280 to accommodate.

So I’ve been exporting the footage from FCP with the same quality as the clips when I bring them in to avoid losing any quality, so what are the format’s I can export as without losing quality? Right now I’m exporting the clips as DVC PRO HD 720p60, 1280 x 720. That is the format they’re in. Does this work or do I need something different? If so if I want to keep everything intact what format should I be looking for?

An update on the above situation:
So now I’m getting the cropping showing up, but its basically flashing on and off of the rendered clip, and when a section of the clip isn’t rendered, its not visible.
So its more confusing now, although anytime I start to see effects fail in a program, my first assumption is the computer is pissed and needs a break. Does anyone think this might be the case?
Thanks

that’s a great idea, and will probably save me some time too, I’ll pull my clips into FCP, then send the video (no audio) to AE, key what i need to key, then render, then you say to just pull the newly rendered clips back in over the old video and it should be fine? sounds great to me, thanks!

it looks like (i figured out from reading a few other audio posted topics) that i was simply using space bar instead of 0 on the key pad, so once I used 0 it renders with audio available, so i think that should work. However, I have not rendered it out yet, what should i watch out for in the render settings to ensure the audio sounds okay?
