    Steve,

I use the HV20 also for both HDV and DV capture. Try setting your HV20 playback to DV locked. Then set Vegas capture to DV.
The HV20 setting is found in the playback menu labeled DV OUTPUT. Be sure to make this menu change before connecting your Firewire connection. Good Luck

    Steve,

You caught my attention with the statement, “and other impressive surprises will soon be hear for us all.” With that in mind. What would be your specifications be for a new editing platform that would be ready for things to come? My current system has the Athlon 64 3800, Asus A8N Sli, 2meg mem, and the Nvidia Quadro FX1700. Also, would you buy it or build it? Your recommendations would help in my planning.
Anyone else’s input would also be appreciated.

    Thanks, August

John R and John K, Thanks to you both.

With your help I finally figured it out. You must select the proper capture utility, ie, Standard DV or HDV. I was trying to capture live HDV with the Standard DV utility. It all seems to work now.
    Thanks gentlemen.

    Steve & Theo,

Thanks for your help. I’ve solved the mystery. It was operator error.
The keyframe window had been pulled up to the top of the dialog box and obscured the rest of the window. Don’t know how it got that way,
    but all is well.

    John, thanks for the response.

    No it does not work.

    Message states:

The device Microsoft AV/C Tape Subunit device could not be opened.
Please make sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application user.

    Any suggestions?
