Sort of on topic.
I’m not sure why but… If you Export to Quicktime Movie from FCP at current settings and then use QT 7 Pro to export that to H264 (or pretty much any other codec) is always faster than an export Using Quicktime Conversion directly from FCP.
e.g. DVCPRO HD 720p60 (rendered) sequence of 1 min 22 secs in length conversion to 640×480 H264 letterbox.
Using QT Conversion from FCP took 8 minutes
conversely Export to QT movie using current settings took 46 secs
with subsequent export using QT7 Pro took a further 2:59
So less than half the time. Quality looks exactly the same. I do this all the time using RED 2K or Panasonic 720p as the source. QT7 Pro is always faster at compressor conversions
Anyone know why that is?
