Its the frame rate. Looking at the exported quicktime in Compressor the frame rate somehow was 23.98 I was successful getting an excellent 640×480 with proper motion Burned a dvd of the fcp quicktime, used Handbrake and selected 29.97 as a frame rate and average bitrate of 1500. Hooked it up to a monitor and it was very nice. Not quite dvd quality but very nice. I’ll try experimenting with Compressor when I can get to the media but frame rate was the culprit

    Thanks to all

I have a new 30 GB Video Ipod and I used the IPOD selection when I output from FCP. However, on analysis it says its 320×240, not 640×480. I did explore Compressor as the first replies suggested (thank you very much) It says the export from FCP is at 23.98, although I didn’t set that up. Shouldn’t the frame rate be 29.97 or 30 fps? Could that be the jerky motion problem?

thanks Jeff, but its not working. When I drag my 4×3 sequence into a 16×9 and twirl down the distort, it already is at 0 and my image is horizontally stretched way out of proportion.

Perhaps I’m not clear. The footage was shot in anamorphic, captured into FCP through my AJA LS as anamorphic clips. I then created a 4×3 sequence and dragged all the anamorphic footage into that. edited in a 4×3 timeline so that the program could be viewed letterbox on a regular tv. I now want to convert the footage back to anamorphic for the online to get a final anamorphic digibeta.

The online house said that I’d get the full resolution of the anamorphic footage by doing this so that I could have an anamorphic version (not letterboxed) for widescreen tv.

  • I have an external 500gb OWC eSATA drive hooked up to a two port e-sata PCI-X card in my Dual 2.3. If I get another 500 gb drive can I create a RAID 0 array.?

    Thanks

I’m told it could be a quicktime problem and that I should re-install or upgrade quicktime.

    Any other suggestions?

Finally got it, with the help from the guys at Advanced Systems Group in Oakland, CA. The solution was simply to upgrade to FCP 5.1, which recognizes the new LS codecs. Yes this was shot in 16×9 on XDCAM discs and everything I set up with the AJA codec was correct. Final Cut couldn’t recognize it because I had a 5.0 version running. Once I upgraded it read the widescreen as anamorphic in the viewer, sequence and canvas.

thanks to everyone who helped with this. I learned a lot about Final Cut from all of this and should have known with a new board to upgrade ALL software and drivers.

BTW, the guys at AJA told me to go to the COW to get advise. You guys have quite the respect and reputation. Well deserved.

    Thanks a bunch!

Thanks Jeremy, Walter, et al. I think I’m almost there. I did as suggested and created an DV anamorphic preset for capture and sequence in the Audio Video settings. In my capture window I have a nice anamorphic picture with black bars up and down and correctly structured pictures. However, when I place that clip into my anamorphic sequence it remains vertically stretched. Any ideas? I’m going to go to my Sony 1500 XDCAM deck to see if there is anything there.

Thanks for your patience and input

    Ashley
