  • You know in this particular case that’s actually not a bad idea. It doesn’t scale very easily (it’s yet another precomp I need to remember to make that’s unique to each render, and if the durations were to change I’d have to remember to change the length of the enclosing comp as well), but I will definitely keep this in mind. Thanks!

  • It’s really not that big of a problem, there was just so much of it I was eager to find any places I could trim seconds off my workflow. The comps themselves are located within their own folders (organizationally I couldn’t just keep them all in one folder), and to me doing batch selecting opened me up to the risk of accidentally missing something.

I ended up using a combination of just duplicating the old renders in the render queue as well as using the search form in the project panel to select all the comps I needed to render.

  • If I didn’t have either and had to get one or the other I’d probably pick VCOF without hesitation… the 3d integration and massive customizability (If I wanted it) is enough, and the price is right.

But seeing as how I already have KLF and don’t have the funds to get OF right now, I’m making do with what I’ve got, and for the most part I haven’t felt much of a pinch.

Though I guess since it’s gonna be time to upgrade to CS5 plugins soon, I may finally just cave for VCOF. since I’d be spending money either way, the financial advantage to sticking with KLF is dampened.

Oop, figured it out. You can right click on the slider control and click “Edit Value.”

Now to figure out how to only handle integers…

  • Yeah, I’d rather not have to learn a renaming program, but that did enter my mind.

As a really noobish question, can you guys tell me how to change the starting timecode/frame number? That sounds like the absolute best approach.

Well, the other idea totally worked exactly as I needed it to, without any prerendering or rotoing. Is there an added benefit to your approach that I’m not realizing?

Great idea, but I don’t think it works… the shatter effect is a 3d effect applied to a 2d layer, and the effect doesn’t work (or rather, nothing really happens) when I apply a mask to it.

Unless I’m doing this wrong… had you tested this approach successfully?

It’s a good way of thinking though, and I’m gonna see what I can do with it.

EDIT: Wait, I’m an idiot, it totally works. Incredible, thanks!
