    Hi Bill,
thanks for your reply. I don’t know about the kit lens, in that case I might just as well get the Vario-Tessar T* FE 24-70mm f/4 ZA OSS i mentioned above (a bit more expensive but f4 throughout and Zeiss) but they both have that dreadful motorised focus… Hmm maybe I’m being to demanding…?

    Cheers,
    Arvid

    Hi Ryan,
    Thanks for your answer.

I’m surprised to hear that as I’ve heard a lot of people talk about the benefits of using IS when shooting with DSLRs. I assumed that was because it reduces the jello effect but maybe its just because it improves their shaky camerawork? Or is there no point to using IS when shooting video at all?

I’m know what Metabones and adapters are, what I meant was that I expected people to suggest using Canon glass that has built in IS with an adapter and I was wondering if there was another solution.

    Thanks for your reply Matt!
I’ve had a look through the menu now and I can’t really find anything that helps. The only option that makes a difference is EXT MIC CH1 REF which when changed reduces the signal in general (hiss and voice alike) so that’s not really helping the problem.

    Any other suggestions?

  • Thanks for your reply.
Sorry I forgot to mention, both mics are powered by XLR PhantomPower from the camera. It is NOT a wireless mic so I don’t think there are any other gain settings then the main levels wheel on the camera? Or would there be something in the menus?

    Thanks for the reply!
Yeah the stepladder suggestion is kind of what i thought…but instead of clamping a hihat (which would mean adding the weight of a big fat o’connor head, I’m thinking about drilling a hole in the wood and using a bolt and a big washer going straight into the camera. but would one bolt be safe to hold up the Red? don’t want to flatten the actors or break the kit…

the mirror solution is also good but unfortunately theres no space at the foot of the bed…

    OK so how about D9?
Apparently I have acces to a D9 deck that I can capture from. Is D9 better than miniDV??
    Thanks,

Is DVCAM tapes better quality then miniDV? Because I wasn’t happy with the quality of the miniDV but since transfer to any tape-format is included in my lab deal (unlike transfer to hard-drive which I would have to haggle for) that would be a great solution.
I haven’t got any tapedecks at all, captures my miniDV from a Sony V1 but I think I can get access to a deck some way…
    Thanks,
    Arvid

OK found the answer, I’ll write it here for future reference:

Holding the AE-L AF-L button is the trick it seems or in the custom setting menu (option f2) you can change so that you just need to push it rather than hold it.

Alright, I get it now. yes its mixed with 1080 footage.
    I can’t find 422 LT in Compressor, I guess that’s because I haven’t got the latest version (I have 3.05)..
    Many thanks Jerry and Paul!
