I agree, if you’ve learned APP, AE and Encore, you can certainly learn to use Audition. Adobe should bundle Sound Booth with Premiere Elements and give us back Audition with the CS3 package. I think the real reason Audition was removed was to create a “paying market” for Audition. I’ll stick with Audition, Sound Booth just seems “amateurish” to me.

What does the client want this video booth to do?
Record 1 minute and “kick out” a DVD?
Or is he/you looking for something that produces a “print” or sketch from the video image — like a photo booth? -
There are other forums that have covered the experiences with varous disc brands in detail and it’s best to look there. Verbatim apparently has “branded” discs produced by various manufacturers in the past with widely varying results. Luckly, I’ve never encountered problems with them (nor Memorex which I’m currently using for dual layer printable DVD’s). Obviously, if you encounter repeated problems with a particluar brand and no with another you need to use what works for you. I only brought this up in connection with the other non-burner issues that should be considered.

You asked a simple and straight forward question. However, as the previous reponse touches on, there may be a lot more involved here than just what is the best burner: you many have a hard drive access slow down due to a need to defrag, you may not have a fast enough processor (doubtful today), may have other programs — especially virus/spyware checkers hogging resources, operating system may be corrupted somewhere and need a reinstall. And certainly the type of disc can be a significant factor — use only the best. I like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Check the forums for preferred brands – stay away from the problem/cheap stuff.
I have Pioneer 03’s and 09’s running flawlessly for several years now. I just picked up a Samsung w/lightscribe external USB which is doing great — and FAST! burners are so inexpensive today that I don’t know that it makes a great deal of difference in what hardware you use. I’ve even used I/O Magic with no problem. -

October 11, 2006 at 1:47 pm in reply to: Taiyo Yuden Glossy with watershield personal reviewI’m not certain the “tackiness” translates to “transfer” though I have not rubbed the surface as a test (because I don’t want to unnecessarily damage a good disc). That being said, it would suggest you try mounting a small hair dryer so that it blows across the surface of the disc as either the drawer open — or the disc is dropped on the stack. )I have a compact low wattage blower that was originally part of a styling comb set that I’ve used for similar work where I needed to just move a little warm air to quickly dry a surface I was working on.

October 10, 2006 at 2:18 pm in reply to: How many minutes of HDV footage can you fit onto one DVD?Neil — Your post contains very useful information. Is there a [good] place where those of us Premiere users who are getting ready to start experimenting with HD editing (in Premiere) can go to follow the progress of others?

September 20, 2006 at 12:18 am in reply to: Taiyo Yuden Glossy with watershield personal reviewI also just received my glossy DVD’s from Tapes.com. The only thing that I would add to the previous review is the “printing instructions” which came with my order states:
“There is a special treatiment around the outer edge of the label side and the edge (117.5 – 120.0 mm) is not printable. Therefore, the recommended printing area is 25-116.5 mm.”
This may or may not be an issue depending upon label design, but be prepared to see a white “ring” if you are printing a dark “full face” label. -
I’ve periodically encountered similar problems. My causes and solutions may of may not apply in your situation.
First, I’d be suspicious about any program that was recently installed. Quite a few do things or run in the background and draw resources that cause problems in Premiere. Have you tried restoring to a date before the last program you installed where this problem seemed to start?
Second, occasionally windows doesn’t always release memory when switching back and forth between programs. Do you have the same problem when you start the computer and run only Premiere?
Third, I presume all or your assets are on the one drive? If so, try moving your audio (or title, etc.) to another drive so these’s less chance for bottlenecks on the bus. Even though you are on a 400 Gig drive with 25% free, you could have frangmented files that are causing data transfer to slow down. I don’t like to defrag. drives I’m actively working on, but you might want to try and copy your files/assets to another drive and then defrag this drive. (It’s a good idea to have only edit files on work drives and to defrag before each new project (multiple firewire of removable drives are great for this). -

September 15, 2006 at 4:11 pm in reply to: I hope Adobe doesn’t force a move to Vista like they did to XP when Premiere went PROOn that last note … regarding 64 bit.
I understand the next release (maybe a “dot” release) of the suite will include 64 bit support.
Does anyone have any experience with the current release and dual core processors to know what the probable compatibality would be with the new quad core processors Intel is supposed to be coming out with by the end of the year?
i.e. — do the programs in the suite (Pro, Encore, Audition, Photoshop, Illustrator presently benefit from dual core and will they (as is) work with/run faster on quad cores? -
Thanks for confirming my thoughts on this. I used to do it this way when I authored in Reel DVD. I was hoping that perhaps Encore had some feature that I hadn’t discovered that could accomplish this. I like the ease of setting and being able to change the poster frame for the motion video buttons.
