    Joe,
I think this problem has something to do with using an external drive via USB. I put my WAV files on my C drive and they worked perfect. Try this out, if you find they play good then we need to concentrate on why the external drives play back all jumbled. Tell me about your findings-Tony

Dave, can you tell us about your setup. I too am having problems playing WAV files. Even WAV files created bySony Vegas via CD capture within the program. I have also read another post that has this same problem. I installed Vegas Pro 12 hoping all the kinks would have been worked out by the last version. This is really frustrating because I can’t work on projects with this glitch. My videos play perfect and the audio accompanying them. When I add a WAV file the sound is a jumbled mess. Is this something new or has there been any reports of these problems in the past. It seems to happen when I use an external drive, and only WAV files. Tell us more how you have your computer set up with any changes to preferences or bios that may affect how WAV files are played back, or any soundcard changes ie buffer sizes etc Thanx Tony

Yes, I have this exact problem, I too use an H4n, I also have this problem when I import audio from a CD via Vegas, I just upgraded to version 12. At first I thought this may be a problem with my hard drive, I wrote a post titled “jumbled audio on USB 3 drive” and only had one response talking about corrupted sf files. But I knew this wasn’t the case because I imported the audio via CD capture twice and have same problem that you have. Is this a known glitch in Vegas 12 or is it possibly a setting on the USB 3 drive. Are you using a USB 3 drive? How.can importing WAV files be a problem when the CD capture renders the file. Will Mr. Rofano please give some insight, he seems to know Vegas as well as anyone. I’m a little worried because I do music videos and use WAV files constantly from the H4n and other sources.

I’m sorry I forgot to mention that Iam using Sony Vegas Pro 12. What are peoples opinion on the stability of this program? It is running a lot less stable than version 8 for me. I just brought a new machine because I wanted smooth playback of my video, unfortunately I ended up with an nvidia card and the program hasn’t operated as smoothly as I thought it would. It is a Dell m4800 laptop , with an I7 processor. I thought handling audio should be no problem. Thanx for any insight into how I should set up my laptop to run in a most efficient manner. Thanx Tony.

Colin, thanx for going above and beyond what a response to a post should be. I tried the programs, but unfortunately I was only able to recover about 15 minutes from an hour. The recovery company was priced way out, ($900 for 32gb card) Thank you for taking the time to research and contact Sony for me. It’s a forum Llike this that displays the true communityof the internet. Thanx again for all your help-Tony

John, thank you for all your help : ) I think I finally understand your workflow for capturing the files. One question though, when you say local drive, do you mean the C drive? Do you import your files to the C drive to work on a project, then export back to a media drive? Or is the local drive you describe another media drive that is not your C drive. Last, I imported the files for a project to the local c drive, thinking this is what you described, how would I export these files keeping the “stitching” in place? Just save the project to another file and check include media? Thanx again for all your help. You’ve got me back on track in the world of Vegas?

John, after I import the files using device in Vegas, it saved it to the local drive, how would I then export it to an external drive? Am I supposed to copy my files to another drive first , then import into Vegas using device? I was always under the impression that is was better to have your media files on another hard drive and then render to yet another drive-is this a work flow from a time when computers weren’t that robust? I was confused by one of your earlier posts on this thread, because you said you copy files to two drives, then in another post you said I shouldnt just copy the files to a drive. Could you explain your workflow? I have two external hard drives(USB 3) one I was going to use for media the other for backups. How would I go from editing on the local drive like you do and then transfer back to the external media drive? Finally, I’m working on a long project that will end up being an hour or longer, it will be too big to work on my local drive-when I make a final edit should I work on the local drive using nested projects assembled into the final edit? Thanks for all your help-Tony

Thank you everyone for their help, I haven’t attempted to recover the files yet. They are extremely, extremely important and I’m a little nervous to attempt it and waa going to see all the different responses before I made a move. I can’t lose these files and want to make sure that I don’t do anything more to complicate things. What program did you use? I want to use the best program to ensure that I recover the files. I’m going to check out all the different programs before I make an attempt. Thank you Nigel for recommending a program that is free, have you used it before? What were your experiences, or any tips? Colin, if you could find out what program your friend used, since it was successful with the nex10. Did you recover all of the files or only portions? Thanks for the tip about recovering from the camera itself, this was one thing I was curious about. Would I be better off going to someone who specializes in recovery? Would they have programs I won’t have access to. Thanks to everyone again-Tony

Thank you everyone for your insight, I plan on upgrading Sony Vegas when I get the chance. Thanks for alerting me to the fact that the Sony Nex10 only shows “takes” and not files and explaining file structure within cameras. Thank you for also explaing how to copy and save the files, I always had small gaps and wondered why. Thank you everyone for your help as I move into the”modern age” any other advice is greatly appreciated, was the nvidia graphics card a bad choice? It was the only one they offered for my laptop that wouldnt takes weeks to arrive. Thanx again everyone-Tony

    John,
I had thought that Version 9 was AVCHd friendly. I guess I should try to upgrade to at least version 12 then. I just tried to copy files from my Sony Nex10 to the local drive of my new machine and it still will only make files that are just over 2 gigs. Is this a limit for my camera, because on the camera it only shows one file but when I go to copy it show multiple files. Since the local drive of my machine is Windows7 it should be NTFS, am I correct in assuming this? Thanks for all your help and prompt replies -Tony
