    wow, I am impressed at how helpful everyone is and THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Ok, I agree that compressing it to a square made no sense at all… and I saw that and thought it was weird… so this time I changed it and it looks much better. so, I changed that against Vimeo’s “recommendations”.

    It seems to be looking pretty good now, except that the file size is too big now to upload t Vimeo. It is 24.5 GB and Vimeo only allows 5 GB… very bummed about this. I thought when I compress it, it would go way down in size.

    FCP is busy right now, trying to compress it again. Otherwise I would give you all the info you asked about…

    some of your questions I can answer;
    format h.264
    exporting w/ Quicktime conversion through FCP
    I used jpgs.
    Question; if I changed the stills to png’s would the whole file be smaller? I really don’t want to do this, because it will take forever to re-do the film…

    Also, I am wondering if I can upload the WHOLE movie onto IMBD… that may be the way I have to go…. and skip the Vimeo thing.

    The film is a combination of dslr video & stills, both shot with the same camera. 5dm2
    “What’s the image size of your still images vs. the video size that you’re exporting and compressing to?
    ” – most of the stills were resized to 1920×1080 so that they would be the general desired size for the film.

    BTW, it is a documentary, of a dark subject matter, but if you want to see it, let me know and I will try to figure out how to send it… problem is, it’s such a big file, I am having a tough time with that. I am going to check out IMBD now and see if I can upload it.

    Some of your questions confuse me… because I am a beginner… “no matter what the case is, make sure FCP export dimensions are consistent with your compressor! ” I think , lol, I am compressing it when I go to File>Export>Quicktime Conversion… does that mean I am exporting it?

    I watched my “compresses version, which is 36 minutes long and 24.5 GB, and it’s looking pretty sweet. made a few changes and am re-exporting it to Quicktime conversion…

    Anyway, wish me luck! And thank you again.

    I guess that is what I used to compress it for vimeo the first time, when it got distorted. It said “Export-> quicktime conversion” so, I will see if I can figure out how to use it so that it compresses it using the “as sequence” settings. I thought you said that I could “drop it in” compressor, but don’t know how to do that. and my fear is that, since I changed my setting when I compressed it for Vimeo, that those settings are now in place. I tried to see if I could figure out what my current sequence setting are, but can’t figure that out either. I am definitely learning how to walk here.

    Chris, I am embarrassed to ask this, but how do I drop it into compressor? Unfortunately, I don’t even know where compressor is!!! Is it an application on my machine? oh, boy… I have a lot to learn. I really appreciate your help, tremendously

    ok. when I export to quicktime move – not compressing it, it turns out great. the only problem is that I need to compress it, (I think) to upload it to Vimeo. and when I use their suggested settings it looks awful. so, how to I make it a QT movie and THEN drop it into compressor?

  • “Export “Current Settings” of you finished edit. Check that file before compressing for delivery.” how do u do this? I am not sure what u mean. I am sorry, but I am new to this….
