Every major network is evaluating EVERYTHING….I know that’s the case here in Washington DC. Networks pay licensing fees to AVID every year for Interplay and server software…this is no different.
Networks no longer have “heavy metal” editors – specialists who just edit. Everyone’s required to edit – even at the NBCCBSABC level…it’s done at desktops, not specialized edit rooms – save for a few programs now here and there.
Avid’s back office is a bit shaky with the latest financial information.
Avid’s learning curve is steep compared to Premiere, which, in CNN’s case, can be configured to work almost exactly like FCP 7.
Training and learning time is a HUGE consideration in a large new gathering operation.
Even if they might like FCP X a little better – the learning curve may have been too steep (read that as….you have to do it Apple’s way…not the way you know) for them to consider it.
The bottom line is – Editing is a capital and ongoing expense for every large news gathering organization.
Adobe has made it clear they want to put their software in these operation’s hands…and they have an army of folks making that happen.

Surprised you are having those problems. We’ve had the opposite experience. Maybe your hardware set up or remove and reinstall may help?

When did you last use Premiere or AE dynamic link between the two? They work fine for is in the last several CC versions. Why would Adobe duplicate it’s AE effects(compositing app) in Premier(editing app)? That’s like complaining Apple didn’t put everything from Motion in FCP X. In fact Apple removed that Dymamic link it had in 7 in this new version.

Yes – they just continued offering CS6 because, unlike Apple, they didn’t end of life it – they just “end of developing’d” it No more feature updates.
If you want new features (and there are tons of them) move to CC. Premiere CC is light years better, faster and more FCP 7 like than Premiere CS6 (although that was pretty good)
You COULD still buy FCP 7 for a while if you rubbed your belly, patted your head and called a super-secret command center, but I think that ended a while ago…and that was only after a loud outcry from people who needed more seats and weren’t about to use the THEN, not ready for prime time X.
CS 6 is fine if you want to be frozen in time with those features and whatever operating system it continues to work on…just as FCP 7 is fine in a similar fashion.
I prefer the fastest and most feature laden production tools….as with clients and business, time is money – and the new CC is a huge time saver for us….AND as a business, the monthly subscription fee for EVERYTHING adobe makes is less than the cost of taking a client to dinner to thank them for their latest 10 or 20 thousand dollar production job.

No problems just reading about others headaches with Premiere Pro and other adobe software crashing and freezing with Maverick and would rather avoid that till adobe finds and fixes issues. Read that most problems are with third party plugins.

probably will wait till Premiere’s got it’s issues with Maverick worked out…..too much work to do that to an already formatted internal drive

I agree with Shane – we now use Premiere Pro CC almost exclusively (the occasional FCP 7 recut…some AVID – FCPX for multicam..although Premiere Pro’s gotten much better)
….and we’re so busy shooting, writing and editing that don’t have a lot of time to blog about it
…..but in fact, Premiere Pro CC is now so much like FCP 7, without the transcoding and rendering headaches…that there’s not much else to say other than it’s a seamless painless transition if you preferred FCP 7
with their built in FCP 7 (and AVID) keyboard shutcuts, you sometimes forget you’re editing in a new, speedier app.

there IS a FCP X techniques forum….so there’s no disrespect for FCP X users…perhaps a better name for this forum is simple NLE Debate….so people with different views can debate the pros and cons of all NLE’s

Can’t say I have enough experience with FCP X, but I’ve made the transition from FCP7 to Premiere CC and find it the easiest move of all the NLE’s – it’s FCP7 on Steroids with virtually no rendering, accepting any format, with seamless round tripping to Audition, Premiere and Photoshop.
If you like tracks and a automated keyframable mixer – FCP X may not be for you – Premiere’s made it a breeze.
