Thanks Stan, I’m glad it can be attributed to a specific cause, it just seemed very user-unfriendly to me, for that to happen… It’s OK for now but I’ll store what you advised – thanks 🙂

Seems it needs “kicking in” in CS6.. If I first link through to an After Effects Composition from the project library it shows up, then if I change it to the original mp4, THEN that image shows up fine.. Weird, but it worked.

Solved. With some bending, shaping and resizing it’s now tracked to the 3D tracker null and is looking ok….

I’m not being very clear so I apologise. I’ve seen this style of shot in loads of films (I wish I could recall which ones!) whereby the close shot is focused on the subjects face and the camera reacts to the movement of the subject (almost as if the camera was attached to their body and is facing back) – it’s particularly effective where you want to portray movement, confusion or altered states of consciousness.

I saw a tutorial where the movement was tracked quite specifically. It’s not overly complex, but I remember seeing a particular technique that impressed me, so I am trying to relocate the video.

Thanks and sorry I can’t be more specific..

That would work! But it’s not the answer I was hoping for.

    Thanks anyway,

Thanks Jim. Since yesterday I have been experimenting with and without certain (RG/Trapcode!!) plugins active. I am going to be more conservative in my approach and probably do my rendering in AE for this project – and you’re right, DL is fine for basics but for what I am trying to do it is totally unrealistic, particularly on my system.

    Thanks mate,

Of course it could be that I’m in 32 bit colour space!!!!

It’s covered in Richard Harrington’s new book on MG’s in CS5. I’m sure that’s the technique you mean – all done with masking (easy in PS) and animating the foreground, mid and background in AE.. That the one?!
