I would export the timeline as a quicktime in the timeline settings (not transcoding to another codec at that point) then use Compressor with one of the DVD presets to make MPEG2 files from it.

The “unsharp mask” usually gives me a slightly better result than the others (but it depends on the footage so do try a couple of different filters). My own tip: when you have it looking nice and sharp on your screen, back off the amount you’ve put in by a quarter (I always seem to overdo it when setting up the effect).

Yeah, I’ve noticed that as well. I see that Canon’s codec is a long GOP 8 bit MPEG2 based one, just as XDCam is.
Strangely (or perhaps not) I made the mistake of importing some Canon mxf’s with Sony’s XDCam utility last week and the pictures worked! The audio didn’t, which was what alerted me to the fact that I was doing something wrong, but they must be very similar.

https://www.sohoeditors.com/TBH, there seems to be a reasonable amount of work around at the moment but PMs are very fussy about experience and mostly want recommendations or a great resume that they can check out rather than a reel, so it’s a tricky place to break into, although not impossible.

I haven’t used AE on one but FCP runs very well on an iMac.
TBH, in a business situation the power and expandability of a tower (Mac Pro) is good to have, but the iMacs are great value if you’re careful about what peripherals you intend to plug into it.
Never used a hackintosh so no real opinion myself. In the UK you’ve either had to build it yourself (I’ve built a couple of PC’s for myself over the years but I’m not really inclined to spend the time and effort on it TBH) or buy one ready made and the ready made ones over here are/were not much cheaper than just getting the Apple one.

TBH there is so much duff gen in the internet that I religiously stick to the internationally agreed official terms, i.e., always refer to field 1 and field 2, NEVER to upper/lower, top/bottom or odd/even, because those unofficial terms are so often misunderstood.
Even odd/even lines is misleading because the official way of numbering lines, and therefore what you will find on proper test gear, is sequential by scanning order (so the lines number down field 1 and then down field 2), not by position on the screen.
In the UK, where I am, HD broadcast is 1080i50 so these things do come up from time to time.

You can get a third screen if you use a firewire break out box (Aja or similar), it’ll be the full screen full quality video one and you exend your desktop/software windows acros the other two.

Sorry, can you be clear about which field is top and which is bottom in terms of temporal order.
Movement jumping back and forward is what you would see when the fields are displayed in the wrong order on an interlaced display (television screen).
I thought we were talking about a progressive display (computer screen).
BTW, if swapping field order doesn’t cause line swapping, you’re using different software to the various things I’ve used over the last few years. In HD video line swapping is very hard to see, other than by noticing jagged lines on diagonals, because the lines are so close together, but you used to be able to see it happening with SD if you were looking critically at a grade 1 monitor.
THB, field order can only be displayed in two ways, correctly or incorrectly. If it’s incorrect (which is what your description sounds like to me) you need to step through your workflow to establish where it’s going wrong. If you’re going through steps a, b, c, d, etc, it’s pretty much impossible for someone to diagnose across the internet where exactly the problem lies.
Hopefully my suggestions will help you get to the bottom of it, but you need to keep a clear head and be methodical. I’m assuming that the ITU-R spec that I linked to makes perfect sense to you and that you have read the manuals for the software your using.
