I’ve been trying to reproduce the fault in making a file to send you. It looks like something our end – I still have the faulty files, and know how/where they were made, but can’t make any more faulty ones.
Ah, well…

Hi
We’re mostly using Wavelab 7 batch processing to do the encoding, with the Lame codec. Unfortunately, we have around 200,000 MP3s on a server and are not yet in the position to re-encode them from the masters to a better, more modern codec, so are stuck with this outdated standard! However, as you mentioned sending a test file, I used a manual save in Wavelab and the duration came out correct in CatDV. So you’re probably right that it’s our encoding process that’s at fault. I’m trying to get the encoders to do me a short, copyright free file to upload so you can have a look. There’s probably different durations at different positions in the file header and essence which are conficting. Do you know which bit CatDV reads? Maybe it’s different to the bit other software uses?
How do I upload a file (it’ll be a week or two – I’m off for a Easter)?
Cheers

Thanks for the reply. It does seem to be consistently 5 seconds on any length file. I’ve used the Windows OS, MediaInfo and MP3Tag to confirm the 5 secs shorter length (though I haven’t actually listened with a stopwatch!).
I’ll try the demo of 10 and see if it’s different.
Can anyone else try an mp3 quickly and see what you get?Cheers

I Should say that I’m capturing a standalone DV stream to an internal 500GB SATA drive, which I’ve just reformated, in case it was fragmentation. I’ve just tried a different deck. I’m getting a ‘conversion failed’ message at the start of the capture, but it proceeds OK till 10 mins in – varies slightly each time, but roughly 2.1GB.
Sorry if this is just too basic!Andrew Pearson

Hi Rolf
That worked great! You’re right – I’d managed to import the metadata, tho’ your link is useful to confirm my hypotheses! I’d also imported the jpegs on a seperate occasion, but missed the ‘Paste Metadata’ bit. Now that works too. I just have to go back to the owner to clean up his work and make sure each jpeg has a discreet catalogue entry, as there’re some discrepancies, it has become apparent…Is there any way to actually link a metadata object to the correct filename, or is it just a matter of getting it right in the pre-import stage?
Thanks for your help

Hi Rolf
Thanks a lot for the quick reply. I’ve got the right bit of Calibrated software (!) now and it’s working to read the folder structure and metadata, thanks. I’m particularly interested in the 4 bits of user metadata EX offers – Title1, Title2, Description and Creator. Is it possible to export an XML of the catalogue containing the selected headings in my particular view? So far I just get standard headings, but I want to include the 4 Sony descriptive ones as well, and be able to customise what gets exported.Sorry if this is too basic and I should have read the manual better!
