AMA in MC4 was only for XDCAM and DVCProHD footage. AMA to quicktime was only introduced in V5. So it’s import or nothing. Importing at DNxHD (120 for 25p or the equilivant), should give you smaller files than 1:1 but still good quality.

In order to export clips to AE, you can export quicktime references which are incredibly quick. To get a sequence over you can use an AAF and Automatic Duck plugins.

Avid can still read and create standard def OMF media. No need to convert.

And if you already have a sequence in which the audio has been synced using pluralise I think AutoSyncing the sequence will create a subclip which is then a little easier to work with. Not done this myself as I’ve always used either timecode or slate.

You can’t fast import XDCAM or DVCProHD because you don’t import them at all. You can AMA and then consolidate which will just rewrap as MXF in the native codec.

The ProRes handling was in the Whats New document when I beta tested MC6. But yes, they should be promoting it better.

How strange. I do not have MC6 installed on my personal computer as yet but will do some testing when I am next at work. Hopefully someone else will come up with an answer before then. What is the origin of the media?

2 things to try.

1) Set media creation to match your source and in the import settings set the colour space to 601/709 (otherwise avid assumes it must convert the files from RGB and does not do a fast import)

2) AMA the files in and then consolidate them to a media drive.

Both should be equal the speed, although the AMA option may give better results (i havent tested this but it does in other scenarios).

Yup. All flavours can be 10bit. But again, only if they are fed a 10bit source. They do not convert 8bit up to 10bit.

Isn’t it only the X DNxHD codecs that are 10 bit (185x, 220x)? Also important to say that all versions of ProRes are potentionally 10bit but only if you feed them a 10 bit source.

Autosync does clip off where both video and audio isnt present, but once you put it into a sequence you can trim back in the head of the video or audio seperately if required.
